Main duties of the job

With a keen interest in supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our community who are experiencing problematic drug and alcohol use, your roles will be to support our Director of Pharmacy and work across a portfolio of services to:

Ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, efficient and cost-effective medicines management systems and processes across our services.

Ensure people and their families are informed and supported through prescribing regimes.

The role available is as follows:

Pharmacy Technician supporting our services in Gloucestershire and Cheshire West and Chester. Applicants must live within a commutable distance to one of the locations.

Pharmacy Technician (Portfolio) Role Purpose To support the Director of Pharmacy and work across a portfolio of services to: Develop, implement and deliver safe and effective medicine management systems. Ensure the delivery of high quality, safe, efficient and cost effective medicines management systems and processes Ensure your colleagues are supported and appropriately trained to deliver high quality services which are in line with policy and guidelines. Key duties and activities of the role Be accountable and responsible for own practice and to operate in line with the General Pharmaceutical Council Code of Professional Conduct. Support the Director of Pharmacy participating in national work streams as required. To ensure people and their families are informed through their prescribing regimes. Providing advice, in your scope of experience, that promotes optimal prescribing. To ensure service literature relating to medicines management is available in a range of formats, reflecting the local demographics. To ensure that all processes that apply to ordering, receipt, recording, dispensing and disposal of medicines and controlled drugs are in line with relevant legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines. To ensure safe storage and handling of all clinical stationery and controlled drugs in line with Via policies and are complaint with Home Offices regulations. Act as a registered healthcare professional, including administration and dispensing of medicines, where required, in line with Via policies and procedures. Where applicable, ensure calculations of doses and quantities are accurate, for example when preparing Methadone. Support services to ensure the delivery of a timely and efficient medicines management service ensuring safe and appropriate access to medicines, including ensuring that orders for medicines and drugs are placed and receipted correctly minimising out of stock situations. Support the management of the supply chain of medicines and storage challenges across the portfolio ensuring adequate stock levels are available and accessible to respond to service demands. To ensure medicine related incidents are reported according to expected timelines and escalated through line-management structures as required. To support incident reviews and embed learning to minimise risk of recurrence. To support medicines management service level audits and ensure recommendations are responded to within the service and or organisationally. To respond to drug alerts (Nationally and Locally), working closely with the Director of Pharmacy and within local alert systems. To support, deliver and facilitate high quality educational learning and development opportunities to your colleagues and external stakeholders, applying a cycle of continuous development. Foster and support the medicines management interface with Primary Care including community pharmacies and other organisations. Contribute to the collation of medicines management data (clinical and financial) pertaining to key performance indicators and subsequent action of any shortfall to improve performance. Support the delivery and development of Via services overseen professionally by the Director of Pharmacy as appropriate. Manage own workload as required to deliver the key objectives within the teamwork plan. Person specification for the role Be a registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC. Have a passion for working with substance misuse services or with other socially excluded or vulnerable groups. Be an effective team player, a good communicator and have great interpersonal skills. Have good IT skills including use of Microsoft Office programmes, digital meeting platforms, Case Management such as Nebula, System One and Methasoft dispensing systems.
