We are seeking Bank Senior Healthcare Assistants to join our In-Patient Unit, primarily for evening and night shifts. You will support Registered Nurses in delivering skilled palliative and end-of-life care, while also taking on additional responsibilities to support safe, effective, and compassionate care for patients and their loved ones.

Main duties of the job

As a Senior HCA, youll play a key role in the team not only providing personal and clinical care but also supporting colleagues, contributing to care planning, and ensuring the highest standards of dignity and respect are upheld.

This role can be challenging at times, so emotional resilience is important but you'll be surrounded by an incredibly supportive and caring team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe and compassionate personal care and support to patients with complex palliative needs
  • Undertake and record a range of clinical observations, reporting changes promptly to the Registered Nurse
  • Assist with extended duties (following training) such as wound care, catheter care, PEG feeding, and supporting with controlled drug checks
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their loved ones, including at times of bereavement
  • Contribute to care planning and monitoring of patients progress alongside the Registered Nurse
  • Act as a role model and support for junior Healthcare Assistants and students
  • Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, person-centred care

JOB PURPOSE

The post holder will assist the Registered Clinician in providing skilled nursing care to patients in need of specialist palliative end of life care. They will provide safe, effective and responsive nursing care to patients and their loved ones in a supportive, caring and compassionate environment.

External agencies such as Echo Hub, SCFT and Primary Care, Hampshire Community Trust, Continuing Health Care, St Richards Hospital and Nursing Homes- Establish and maintain good working relationship with colleagues, so as to provide a comprehensive service to patients and loved ones to enable good liaison and share best practice.

The postholder will be able to work independently providing safe, competent, and ethical client care, under the guidance of registered healthcare professionals, in the delivery of palliative care to patients and their loved ones, utilising established protocols and procedures.

They will undertake delegated tasks in which they have been trained and assessed as competent

Financial resources

To have the delegated responsibility of maintaining stock levels and using stock responsibility.

To be responsible for the care and safe keeping of equipment issued for personal and team use and to check and report any defect or loss.

Be responsible for the care and safe keeping of patient belongings

Other resources

Personal responsibility for ensuring the security of the Hospice is maintained, escalating concerns as necessary in line with St Wilfrids Hospice guidelines.

A working knowledge of IT systems particularly patient electronic records and Microsoft Office.
