Job summary

We are looking for an accredited Counsellor to join our committed team delivering NICE approved, evidence based psychological interventions within our Nottingham & Nottinghamshire NHS Talking Therapies service. Our team typically work in a hybrid manner, the successful candidate will spend two days working from one or more of our community venues in the Mansfield and Ashfield area. We have a base in Newark (YMCA Newark and Sherwood Community and Activity Village) with the option to work on a hybrid basis if desired.

To be eligible for this post you will need be be trained, or willing to train in the Counselling for Depression NHS Talking Therapies counselling modality - applicants without this qualification would be contracted to complete the Counselling for Depression course if successful.

It is desirable for applicants to be trained in Interpersonal Therapy.

Applicants without an NHS Talking Therapies counselling modality qualification (including Interpersonal Therapy, Couples Therapy for Depression, Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy) would be employed into a development post and would be offered a salary lower than advertised to reflect this. On completion of the course you would move into the banding advertised.

Main duties of the job

As an accredited counsellor, you will use your skills and expertise to work with clients primarily presenting with including low mood and depression. Your recovery and outcome rates will reflect your ability to build a successful therapeutic relationship with our clients and go the extra mile to achieve the right outcomes for them.

About youWe would love to hear from you if you:

  • Hold a Diploma or degree in Counselling from a recognised course which would meet the requirements for BACP (or equivalent) accreditation.
  • Are accredited by at least one of the following bodies: BACP (must be accredited, membership is not sufficient), NCS (must be accredited, membership is not sufficient), UKCP or IPT UK.
  • Possess one of the NICE compliant qualifications mentioned above and, if not already trained, are willing to complete the Counselling for Depression course.
  • Experience of working within a primary care mental health service.
  • Evidence of working with people who have experienced common mental health problems i.e. anxiety / depression.
  • Good record of Continuing Professional Development and willingness to continue this.
  • Knowledge of Talking Therapies and stepped care model.
