Job summary

We have a new and exciting role as a Senior Health & Safety Manager to join us at Everyturn.

You will be responsible for leading our Occupational Health and Safety Management (OHSM), providing strategic guidance, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. This role involves working across all of our services to provide assurances and to monitor the organisations health and safety performance.

You will be the organisational Health and Safety Competent Person and will be responsible for implementing an OHSM to ISO45001 standards.

Will consider remote applications, however this role will require National travel with a predominance in North East England.

Main duties of the job

About the role

Operational and Strategic Leadership:

  • Be the Competent/Responsible Person for Everyturn on all matters Health & Safety in line with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • Develop, implement, and manage the Occupational Health and Safety Management system in alignment with organisational goals and legal requirements.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership in all aspects of health and safety including development of the H&S strategy
  • Be the secretary and minute taker for the H&S Committee and ensure there are robust governance arrangements to ensure efficiency of the committee including timely management of the agenda, minutes and papers.

Policy Development and Implementation:

  • Create and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ensure all health and safety policies are communicated effectively and understood across the organisation.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with UK health and safety regulations, including the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to health and safety.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • As the competent person for H&S, lead on development and management of a robust H&S risk register and ensure there are robust mitigating actions in place to reduce impact.

About you

  • Bachelors degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH Chartered Membership, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in health and safety management, preferably in a healthcare or mental health setting.
  • Proven experience in implementing and managing OHSM systems to ISO 45001 standards.

ISO 45001 Implementation:

  • Lead the implementation and maintenance of the OHSM system to ISO 45001 standards.
  • Ensure the organisation meets the requirements for ISO 45001 certification.
  • Conduct gap analyses and prepare the organisation for external audits.

Reporting and Assurances:

  • Provide detailed reports and assurances to board members regarding the status and effectiveness of the OHSM.
  • Present findings and recommendations to the board and senior management.
  • Lead on development of regular reports including the annual H&S report for the Executives and the Board

Training and Development:

  • Develop and deliver health and safety training programmes for employees at all levels.
  • Promote a culture of safety through continuous education and awareness initiatives.

Incident Management:

  • Oversee the investigation of health and safety incidents and accidents.
  • Responsible for externally reporting ALL RIDDOR incidents
  • Implement corrective actions and preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
  • Lead on internal investigations as required. (This may require occasional exposure to highly distressing circumstances e.g., interviewing employees/public following an incident.).
  • Support external investigations or inspections by HSE, CQC, Local Government bodies and other relevant bodies, ensuring collaboration and transparency.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with key stakeholders across multiple services to integrate health and safety considerations into all organisational activities.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for health and safety matters both internally and externally.
  • Provide advice and support to Everyturn services functions, including Operational, , Clinical, and corporate teams on elements of risk assessment that relation to H&S for staff and/or service users. Guide leaders to adapt and adopt generic risk assessments as needed.
