About Coalway Lane

Coalway Lane is a 20 bed, purpose-built, 24-hour specialist Mental Health Rehabilitation and Recovery service in Swalwell, Gateshead. Our main purpose is to support people with complex mental health problems to live well and independently in the community. Coalway Lane work with people to understand and manage their mental health condition, as well as to develop and practice the skills which are important to live a satisfying life.

Our team of mental health nurses and support workers are passionate about what they do and we specifically select our staff not just for their skills, but for their personal qualities such as warmth, optimism, and a natural desire to help others.

Successful candidates will be joining a team of up to 10 Mental Health Staff Nurses and 10 Support Workers, led by a Service Manager and 2 x Clinical Team Leads. As a Staff Nurse you will be responsible for a small caseload, from admission to discharge, assisting them to learn the skills and manage their symptoms to be able to live more independently on discharge.

£1,000 bonus payable upon successful completion of 6-month probationary period & we offer an enhanced Refer a Friend payment scheme!

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting time to join the team with the recent re-provision of 4 of our beds to accommodate short stays for people in mental health crisis. The aim is to work in partnership with the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment team, offering support to avoid a hospital admission.

We work in the least restrictive way and collaborate closely with the individual and other professionals to offer just enough support, so that people can take the risks they need to in order to reach their potential, flourish in life and transition into a community setting.

We would love to hear from you if you possess the following:

  • Are an NMC Registered Mental Health or RNLD with relevant mental health experience with a valid Pin.
  • We welcome applications from newly qualified Mental Health nurses.
  • Experience of working with people who have complex mental health problems and who can present with behaviours that challenge.
  • Possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess a genuine desire to care for this client group and can appreciate that all our service users are individuals and take a person-centred approach in your work.
  • Can demonstrate an empathic attitude and can keep our values at the heart of what you do.
  • Flexibility - shift patterns do include weekends and nights, and you may need to work at either service based on the service needs.
