Job summary
James' Place is a unique charity, providing a semi-structured clinical intervention to men in a suicidal crisis. Founded by James' parents following his tragic death by suicide, they were determined to prevent other families from losing loved ones.
We are looking to recruit a Suicide Prevention Therapist to support men in suicidal crisis at our new pilot service in Darlington. This role is part of an exciting new initiative for our charity.
We seek an experienced mental health professional or therapist with a proven interest in suicide prevention. The ideal candidate will assist clients and their supporters in recovering from suicidal crises and maintaining their safety.
We will provide training to help you develop your therapeutic skills to offer our collaborative, semi-structured, psychologically informed intervention to clients.
The successful candidate will join an experienced and supportive team, gradually building a caseload to assist men in suicidal crisis as we expand our referral partnerships and raise awareness in Durham and Teesside

The main duties of the Suicide Prevention Therapist are:
- Welcome men into our service and create a safe environment where they feel able to share
- Assess the needs of men and decide if our intervention is the right service for them
- Train in our 'Lay your Cards on the Table' intervention
- Provide our brief intervention on a 1-2-1 basis with men
- Work with the men supporters
- Work with the small team in Newcastle/Darlington and with our wider team in our other centres in London and Liverpool
Our hours of work are 8 hours per day, inclusive of a 30 minute unpaid break.

Overview of your organisation
The Newcastle Centre has a small team of 12 people, but James Place currently employs over 40 people in total. The Newcastle team is currently made up of 8 part-time suicide prevention therapists, a full-time Head of Centre, a full-time Centre Manager and Clinical Administrator and a member of the fundraising team. Two more therapists and another clinical administrator are soon to join the team to meet the demand for the service and support the pilot.
We're an incredibly supportive and close team with a strong culture of making sure all team members are adequately supported both formally and informally.
Therapists can choose their own external supervisor, monthly supervision sessions are paid for by the charity.
