Eating Disorder Support Officer

Job summary

First Steps Ed are looking for a passionate and supportive Specialist Support Officer to join our team in Derby/ Derbyshire.

First Steps ED supports people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds experiencing problems with eating difficulties and eating disorders. The role will require the ability to deliver our face-to-face services to provide individuals with the support through our Early Help Eating Disorder programme to facilitate progression and change in their home, education, and community environments. It involves working with a range of professionals to ensure provision of high quality and safe services to Leicester children and young people.

You will have the ability to relate to and work with a range of professionals to ensure a high quality and safe services. You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes clinical and non-clinical colleagues from referring organisations and colleagues from across our organisation.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide peer support to service users, helping them realise their goals as agreed within their care plan.
  • Work with the individuals to access our services including one-to-one peer support,
  • Provide additional support and signposting to our Guided Self-help, psychoeducation programmes and support groups, befriending, and volunteering opportunities as part of their supported self-care
  • Working with children and young people covering the age range of 5 to 25 years old on site in therapy rooms and online via video with one-to-one or in peer groups.
  • Deliver workshops and training to external organisations as part of the role.
  • Full training and support will be provided for this role.
  • This role will require you to travel 25% of the time within Derby for client meetings or face to face workshops.
  • This role requires a DBS check to be successfully completed prior to employment.

  • Formulate and implement plans agreed with the NHS Care Coordinator for the management of a service users eating disorder problems, based upon an appropriate agreed recovery plan with the service user and their family.
  • Exercise professional responsibility for the treatment plan goals, including regular communication with the ICS Coordinator and NHS Care Coordinator and others involved in the care team.

  • Work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to safeguard and ensure the quality of care of the service user and where appropriate parents/carers.

  • Undertake risk assessment and risk management for service users, working in collaboration with other care team members to manage risks identified.

  • Manage a case load of All Ages service users.
