Job summary

This is a new and exciting position for a Substance Misuse Recovery Worker to join Combat Stress and work alongside the NHS as part of Op Courage in the South West of England. The Substance Misuse Recovery Worker's role will sit within the Integrated Veterans Mental Health Service (OP Courage).

Main duties of the job

Combat Stress is the leading provider of mental health services to Military Veterans who have served in the British Armed Forces and experience mental ill health arising from military service. The Substance Misuse Recovery Worker's role will sit within the Integrated Veterans Mental Health Service (OP Courage). Line Management is provided by the Lead Nurse. Under the guidance of the Lead Nurse, the Substance Misuse Recovery Worker's role is to actively engage and support veterans living in the South West of England who misuse drugs and alcohol. The goal is to reduce the harm caused by drug and alcohol use by providing support to stabilise, reduce or stop their substance misuse and improve their health and wellbeing. Combat Stress is a Values based organisation and therefore the post holder will be required to promote these values throughout their role, as well as upholding the culture of engagement with service users and the implementation of a recovery-based approach when working with service users, families, and carers.

For a Substance Misuse Recovery Worker, an appointment working with our Armed Forces veterans would be extremely rewarding. Our veterans have served in every campaign since the First World War and for over a hundred years our team has been there to support them with their mental health needs. You will work with a service user group who have a real motivation to make positive changes to their lives and your experience, compassion and focus on recovery will help achieve this. Experience of working with military and veteran populations would be welcome but it is not essential. Under the supervision of the Lead Nurse, you will work within a small but highly skilled multidisciplinary team to provide timely and high-quality specialised substance misuse interventions for veterans. This position will be largely virtual, however travel to stakeholder location will be expected as required. The role will be integrated into the Op Courage treatment pathway.
