An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our dedicated Practice Development Team on a part-time basis at Willen Hospice, the leading provider of specialist palliative care in the Milton Keynes area.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver and support high-quality, evidence-based education and training across clinical teams.
  • Work alongside staff in clinical environments to assess practice and maintain care standards.
  • Provide face-to-face clinical care to patients and their families.
  • Drive compliance, safety, and sustainability initiatives
  • Support clinical projects and quality improvement initiatives.

What youll need:

  • Be a qualified RN or AHP with current registration and practical clinical experience.
  • Have a strong interest in palliative and end-of-life care.
  • Have effective organisational and communication skills.
  • Have confidence in engaging with a wide range of healthcare professionals.
  • Have a desire to develop teaching and education delivery skills.
  • Have knowledge of audit processes and evidence-based practice is desirable.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Support and work effectively to organise the internal mandatory trainers to develop a programme of statutory and mandatory training that reflects high standards. Monitor and evaluate the programme annually.

2. Work collaboratively with the Associate Director for Quality and the Practice Development Lead Nurse (PDLN) to promote the Quality Initiatives to support the continual assessment of Hospice clinical practices against national/local standards as stipulated in CQC, NICE and other national documents. Maintain standards through the CHKS programme.

3. Act as a practice assessor/practice educator to directly assess clinical students. Support multi-professional students and work collaboratively with academic institutions to ensure an effective assessment process.

4. Recognise the impact of current research, and actively participate in research opportunities available to the Hospice. Where appropriate, publish projects or present projects at conferences.

5. Collaboratively facilitate the multi-professional programme of education and development of staff and volunteers in accordance with the Learning and Development Strategy. Use feedback to continually improve educational activity. Work in collaboration with external colleagues and stakeholders, to promote and deliver educational programmes to enhance knowledge and skills.

6. Uphold CPD through revalidation and supervision to ensure knowledge base is current.

7. Contribute to the creation and development of Hospice policies that reflect organisational values, best practice and comply with legal and statutory requirements.

8. Maintain own clinical practice by regularly working alongside clinical colleagues; observing and assessing colleagues in clinical competencies. Maintain documentation to meet local standards.

9. Attend and contribute to relevant working parties as agreed by the PDL. Organise cover for meetings during planned absence & cover meetings during PD team members. Represent the department at internal and external meetings as directed.

10. As part of the PD team generate income for the department as identified in the annual budget and utilise the allocated resources in a cost effective manner.
