Counsellor
12 Month Fixed Term Contract to cover Maternity Leave
18 - 19 hours per week, to include working on a Monday
An exciting
opportunity has arisen for a qualified Counsellor to join the Therapeutic and
Wellbeing Service to support the patients and families of Willen Hospice on a 12
month fixed term contract.
The role provides
a counselling service for patients and families within the Psychology & Counselling
team and would include assessing referrals, providing assessments alongside
delivering skilful and compassionate counselling in groups, individually and
supervising volunteers.
The successful candidate will hold a Counselling qualification (at
least to degree level, ideally post graduate level 7); will be a member of BACP
or UKCP, ideally with accreditation (or working towards accreditation). You will have experience of working in
palliative care and bereavement counselling, ideally with clients across the
lifespan.
You will be self-motivated with
strong communication skills to help support the continued development of this
evolving service, and work across and within a multi-disciplinary team.
The role may include working within the local community, you should be
confident working alone, hold a current driving license and have access to a
car.
Main duties of the job
To
provide a counselling service for the patients and families of Willen Hospice,
within the Psychology & Counselling team. To assess referrals, complete
assessments and provide skilful and compassionate counselling to clients,
ensuring that patients, their partners, their children and relatives receive
the highest standard of service.

1. Assist with the
assessment of counselling referrals within the established clinical referral
and discharge criteria.
2. Carry a clinical caseload
for pre and post bereavement clients across the community, on the In-Patient
unit (IPU) and within the Therapeutic & Wellbeing Service.
3. Provide counselling for
patients, carers and relatives (pre-bereavement or post-bereavement) as
required, using individual, group and family approaches involving other members
of the hospices multidisciplinary team (MDT) and other community professionals
as appropriate.
4. Work as a member of the MDT and promote multi-disciplinary working at all
times. To attend and participate in weekly MDT meetings, as required, in
relation to patient referrals and care plans.5. Assess, plan and implement effective therapeutic interventions in a timely
manner.
6. Monitor and evaluate the outcomes of counselling.
7. Use time flexibly in order to meet the needs of clients, including
supporting therapeutic and wellbeing service events (i.e. memorial events).
8. Participate in the planning and delivery of occasional training input for
staff, volunteers and others.
9. Maintain accurate and confidential counselling records, written and
electronic, in line with Willens organisational policy, professional requirements,
current legislation and best practice.
10.
Provide leadership together with other members of the team, in monitoring
standards and leading practice development for counselling and psychological
interventions.
11. Have a flexible approach to duties and be prepared to take on additional
responsibilities as the role and service develop.

abide by professional standards of accredited membership body and those of
Willen hospice within their practice.
