North London Hospice has been the leading provider of end-of-life care in North London since 1984, providing specialist care to patients at home, in the community and on our Inpatient Unit in Finchley. Our mission is to help our patient's live life to the full despite their illness.
As part of our Patient Services Transformation programme, we are currently seeking to recruit a doctor with a special interest and experience in palliative medicine to work on a part time, 4-month fixed term basis; equally providing specialist palliative care to our Hospice In-patient Unit (IPU) and to the community.
The Hospice is home to many diverse departments such as nursing, medical, clinical, cleaning & catering, and our corporate departments such as Marketing and Communications, Finance, People and Fundraising. Alongside these services we also have 18 retail stores across North London playing a vital part in generating money for us so that we can continue doing the work we do. The core to all of this, is our patients and being able to see the difference that we make every day.

Main duties of the job
We welcome applicationsfor a part-time internal secondment for a Consultants post in Palliative Medicine based at NLH.
The post-holder will provide medical support to the Inpatient Services of North London Hospice and Community Specialist Palliative Care Teams. The post provides managerial leadership with opportunities for strategic planning, educational supervision, and designated time for audit, CPD and revalidation. There will also be the opportunity to develop services embracing new working models.
The post holder will also work with the medical team across the other services provided by North London Hospice and take part in the Consultant on-call service covering Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals.

This post is aimed at supporting the inpatient and community services and has arisen due to a delay in advertising a substantive post. It may offer a development opportunity to act up into a consultant role and gain experience with support from a mentor and established consultant team. It is anticipated that at the end of the term the service needs will be reviewed.
The successful applicant will be a fully registered member of the General Medical Council with current license to practice and will be on the Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine, be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or have made an application to the specialist register via the CESR route at the time of the interview.
