Job summary
We are seeking
an experienced and motivated Associate Director of Clinical Services to join
our leadership team. This is a key role responsible for the leadership and
continuous improvement of clinical services and contracts across Leeds GP
Confederation.
The post-holder will provide clinical leadership
to ensure services are safe, effective, and high quality, while supporting
business development and growth. The role will work closely with internal teams
and external partners to ensure strong service collaboration and innovation
across Leeds.
This role is 0.8WTE
Main duties of the job
As Associate Director of Clinical Services, you will work closely with the Deputy Medical Director and leadership team to support service and contract leadership, clinical governance, patient safety, and quality across the organisation.
You will play a central role in enabling colleagues to deliver excellent clinical services.
You will:
- Lead the clinical oversight of services and contracts across the Leeds GP Confederation, with a strong focus on quality, safety, and patient outcomes.
- Lead the Enhanced Access service, ensuring safe, high-quality, and effective delivery.
- Be accountable for Leeds GP Confederation clinical services across a range of contracts
- Support and embed robust clinical governance frameworks across all services
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams, primary care, and system partners.
- Work closely with partner organisations in the delivery of jointly commissioned services (e.g. Leeds Sexual Health), ensuring strong collaboration and quality delivery.

Service & Contract Leadership:
- Lead the clinical oversight of services and contracts across the Leeds GP Confederation, with a strong focus on quality, safety, and patient outcomes.
- Personally lead the Enhanced Access service, ensuring safe, high-quality, and effective delivery.
- Provide direct line management to Clinical Leads, supporting them to deliver safe, effective, and high-quality clinical services.
- Be accountable for Leeds GP Confederation clinical services across a range of contracts (e.g. ADHD assessment and treatment services, Acute Respiratory Infection hubs etc), ensuring consistent standards of quality and safety.
- Work in close partnership with the Service Delivery and Performance Leads, who hold responsibility for operational performance, to ensure services are both high-quality and effectively delivered.
- Lead teams to embed continuous quality improvement within services, ensuring learning is translated into practice.
- Participate in an on-call rota to provide senior clinical and management support for service-related queries and issues.
- Work collaboratively with operational colleagues to ensure services are responsive, safe, and aligned with best practice, regulatory and contractual expectations.
Clinical Governance, Safety & Quality:
- Support and embed robust clinical governance frameworks across all services.
- Be an active member of the relevant Leeds GP Confederation Committees as required (eg Quality Committee)
- Provide clinical input and oversight into complaints and incidents process, ensuring appropriate investigation, learning, and improvement.
- Ensure Clinical Leads maintain high standards of patient safety and care quality within the Leeds GP Confederations services.
- Play an active role in CQC preparedness, supporting services and teams to meet regulatory standards.
- Provide leadership for statutory responsibilities such as safeguarding.
- Be accountable for quality within the services of the portfolio including providing relevant assurances as required.
- Lead on the organisations clinical audit programme, developing and improving audit processes to strengthen safety and quality of clinical care.
Business Development & Growth:
- Support Leeds GP Confederations business development agenda.
- Contribute to the development, bidding, and mobilisation of new contracts.
- Work with partners and internal teams to identify opportunities for service improvement, innovation, and growth.
- Ensure new and existing services are designed and delivered with quality, safety, and sustainability at the forefront.
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnership Working:
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams, primary care, and system partners.
- Work closely with partner organisations in the delivery of jointly commissioned services (e.g. Leeds Sexual Health), ensuring strong collaboration and quality delivery.
- Engage with commissioners and partners to support contract delivery and development.

Responsibility for staff management:
- Day to day line management of a team of staff within portfolio in line with Leeds GP Confederation values and behaviours.
- Be accountable for the service delivery and performance of a team
- Undertake staff appraisals and deal effectively with poor performance in line with Leeds GP Confederation policy.
- Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff.
- Support and implement workplace induction processes for new staff to ensure that they are aware of all appropriate procedures, policies and information necessary to carry out their role effectively, efficiently and safely.
- Responsible for monitoring the teams adherence to the organisations mandatory training requirements.
- Support staff within own team with motivation, development and training. Provide support and expertise to own team members.
- Mentor colleagues within the team.
- Deputise for the Medical Director as needed.
Personal/Professional Development:
The post-holder will participate in any training programme implemented by Leeds GP Confederation as part of this employment, such training to include:
- Completion of all mandatory training;
- Participation in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development;
