Job summary
Our Sibling Support service provides dedicated support and therapeutic interventions to siblings who may be bereaved, and those who have a sibling with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition.
The service allow s siblings to access specialist support, share experiences, gain information and have the opportunity to speak to others who understand their situation and the problems they face.
Rainbows have an exciting opportunity for a Support Specialist to join the team, working with siblings to assess their individual needs and identify, plan and deliver suitable interventions.
The role is home based with regular travel across the East Midlands in order to meet the needs of our families. Occasional weekend and evening work is required.
Main duties of the job
Responsibility of the role include:
- Work with family members to increase the understanding of the needs of siblings.
- To support siblings to enable the facilitation of other groups, for example the bereaved family days and groups.
- To identify and implement creative ways to communicate with the sibling groups.
- To ensure that children, young people, and their parents are empowered through information and understanding of their rights and options to access services required.
- To ensure that the siblings individual needs are met, including the cultural, and spiritual aspects.
Requirements of the role:The ideal candidate will have a certificate in Play Therapy, Arts Therapy or Childrens Counselling or equivalent. You will have significant epericne working with siblings of children with palliative care/complex needs. You will have the ability to travel regularly across the East Midlands.

- Co-ordinate the implementation of the identified programme for sibling groups in conjunction with counterpart Sibling Support Specialist and Family Support Team .

- Assess, deliver, and evaluate one to one therapeutic support to siblings who have an identified need at a suitable location.
- Liaise with schools and other organisations to facilitate sessions.

- To signpost to other psychological support services as needed.
- To work in conjunction with the outreach play specialist as appropriate to support family groups or younger siblings.
- To support siblings to enable the facilitation of other groups, for example the bereaved family days and groups.
