Are you passionate about delivering clinical education and want to create a centre of excellence for specialist palliative care?

We are recruiting a Clinical Practice Facilitator to oversee and coordinate the delivery of the Hospice's clinical education plan to ensure that the Hospice has a workforce who are appropriately skilled, engaged and supervised to safely and effectively undertake patient facing roles.

This is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week normally between office hours, Monday to Friday however there is an expectation that the successful candidate will also work clinical shifts as and when required to maintain clinical competence.

Main duties of the job

Whilst working closely with clinical leads, as Clinical Practice Facilitator you will:

  • Lead on the development of a proactive education and development plan and coach clinical leads to be able to execute the plan and maintain their competence and confidence to deliver training. There is also an expectation that you will also directly deliver and facilitate clinical education sessions as and when required.
  • Provide oversight on training compliance and contribute towards audits to demonstrate the Hospice is operating in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Engage with external and professional networks to understand changes to legislation, policy & practice and their impact on the clinical education/ development requirements.

Our ideal candidates will:

  • Be a qualified Registered Nurse and have extensive experience of caring for people at the end of life in a healthcare setting including having clinical assessment skills and be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Be creative in their approach to education and teaching and have a commitment to producing high quality work tailored for different audiences
  • Have experience of clinical assessments and be willing to accept support and feedback from other team members

Work closely with clinical leads to ensure that the Hospice has a workforce who are appropriately skilled, engaged and supervised to safely and effectively undertake patient facing roles.

Main duties and responsibilities

Professional

1. Work alongside the IPU and Community teams to build an understanding of the clinical workforce education and development requirements for the organisation for now and the future.

2. Actively engage in external professional networks to understand changes to legislation, policy & practice and their impact on the clinical education/development requirements to broaden our offering to meet the education and development needs of our staff and support the aims of the Hospice.

3. Lead the development of a proactive education and development plan that can flex to accommodate staff working patterns, maintains clinical competency, builds resilience and specialism into our offering, and meets our regulatory and legal compliance obligations. Ensure it is accessible, leverages digital technology, adheres to theories of adult learning, is scalable, cost effective and delivers impact.

4. Lead on standard setting for the delivery of education and training within the Hospice, coaching and supporting clinical leads and clinical champions to execute the education and development plan, maintain their competence and confidence to deliver training as SMEs, provide feedback to staff and complete the appropriate competence checks and OSCEs (Objective Structured Clinical Examinations).

5. Directly deliver and assist with the provision of clinical education and training as required across the organisation and facilitate dedicated education sessions for clinical staff.

6. Provide oversight on training compliance and contribute to audits and recording of data on the Learning Management System to demonstrate the Hospice is operating in accordance with regulatory requirements.

7. Promote collaboration with other organisations (health, social care, charitable sector and education) to share best practices and reduce inefficiencies, inequity and duplication in the education and development of clinical teams.

8. Work closely with the wider Workforce, Education, Learning and Development (WELD) team to ensure that clinical education and development has a demonstrable return on investment, effectively leverages learning technologies, is delivered in line with Hospice values and continuously evolves in line with the changing landscape and best practices in adult learning.

9. Chair the Clinical Education, Training and Development group and attend relevant forums related to governance and quality to support the development of the education and development plan (e.g. Learning for Safety, Medicines Operational Governance).

10. Maintain a training matrix to inform reporting, determine which employees need which training, identify and escalate risks and governance issues, and prioritise training needs.

11. Support the development of new starters (new employees, returners, student placements, preceptees), liaising with the line manager and other teams (HR, university or training body)

12. Identify opportunities for the Hospice to increase reach and generate income by contributing to training of staff and students from external organisations in palliative and end of life care.

13. Maintain personal knowledge, competence and practice in clinical procedures and pedagogy. Be available and flexible to work clinically across services to support education and clinical needs and to maintain clinical competence.
