Job summary

Originally founded in 1823, Seashell Trust is a nationally recognised and registered charity based in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport. The trust consists of the Royal School Manchester (RSM), Royal College Manchester (RCM), 17 residential homes, outreach, health and family services. Based on one site, we provide care and education for children and young people (up to 25 years old) with severe, profound, and complex learning difficulties and disabilities, sensory impairment, communication disorders and autism. Main duties of the job

We are excited to be recruiting a Nursing Assistant to be an integral part of our Nursing team providing prescribed care to children and young adults with complex health needs in both our school and college as part of their individual care plans. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, and within our TDDI regulated activities, our Nursing Assistants play a key role in maintaining our CQC (Outstanding) registered health service status. Job description

Job responsibilities

As part of a nursing team, the Nursing Assistant will provide prescribed care and nursing support to children and young adults with complex medical health needs as requested in their care plan. Within Seashell this is approximately 60 students in school and 70 students in college. Working in partnership with the Registered Nurses you will deliver high quality personal care and delegable Nursing procedures including insulin injections, tracheostomy care, gastrostomy and jejunostomy care, oxygen use and monitoring, use of inhalers and nebulisers for asthma care, catheter care and the safe administration of medication. You will also monitor the health needs of children and young adults in partnership with the student, Registered Nurse and wider Seashell team including monitoring heights/weights/BP/Fluid charts/Bowel monitoring as required. At all times you will prioritise the health needs of students and seek further advice on tasks falling outside of your scope of practice or ability. You will liaise with parents, registered nurses, educational and residential staff and any other members of the team as appropriate, reporting any change in the child and young adults condition, maintaining appropriate documentation at all times and adhering to professional boundaries and safeguarding policies. In addition you will also respond to emergencies as they arise in school and/or college and support in the administration of emergency medication as required

Qualifications

Essential

  • - Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care and/or Healthcare Support
  • - A - C grade GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths
  • - Proficiency in IT preferably a Level 2 IT qualification

Experience

Essential

  • - Medication administration training and assessed competency
  • - Experience of working with children and young people with learning disabilities and complex communication needs who can also have complex health and medical needs preferably in an education-based environment or from working with families and carers
  • - Experience of working in a healthcare setting
