Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice

Physiotherapist (Clinical Therapies Lead)

The closing date is 17 August 2025

Job summary

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced physiotherapist to establish and lead a new clinical therapies service at Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice. The post carries responsibility for the planning, delivery and evaluation of a high-quality clinical therapy offer to meet the complex physical and therapeutic needs of babies, children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions.

The role sits within a multidisciplinary care team with a holistic model of care, giving significant scope to shape the direction and development of the service in collaboration with other clinical, therapy, education and volunteer teams.

Core responsibilities include conducting physiotherapy assessments and interventions for children who require physiotherapy input, working in close partnership with families and local statutory services. This includes maintaining and reviewing individual risk assessments and therapy plans, and support at end of life as required.

A key focus of the role is the operational and clinical oversight of hydrotherapy provision, including individual risk assessments, delivery of specialist hydrotherapy sessions for children with complex needs and ensuring the safe, effective running of the hydrotherapy pool. This includes overseeing processes for use of the pool by families, in line with agreed protocols.

Main duties of the job

This role calls for an experienced physiotherapist with a strong background in paediatrics and hydrotherapy, ready to lead the development of a new service in a palliative care setting.

A proven track record in designing and delivering physiotherapy for children with complex needs is essential, alongside the clinical skills and confidence to build an evidence-based offer which complements wider statutory services. A solid understanding of community and school based services will be key to ensuring joined-up care for families which does not duplicate statutory support.

The ideal candidate will bring expertise in hydrotherapy, and a readiness to take clinical and operational responsibility for pool-based therapy and family swims. You will have a strong interest in children’s palliative care and the ability to work sensitively with children at all stages of palliative care, including end of life.

A flexible working style is essential, with a willingness to work two weekend days a month and occasionally travel across North Central London, to enable responsive, family-centred care.

Kindly see the attached job description for more information about this opportunity. We encourage early applications, as we reserve the right to close this role early if we receive sufficient applications.

Please note an enhanced DBS disclosure with Child Barring will be required for this post. Our recruitment checks, induction, ongoing support reflect our commitment to safeguarding the families we support.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and we reserve the right to close this role early. We therefore encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

About us

Designed by families, for families, The Ark was opened in September 2019 by the Mayor of London. The grounds offer wheelchair accessible outdoor experiences, including a Woodland Walk through a 7-acre nature reserve, a hydrotherapy pool and overnight suites for families to be close to their loved ones.

At The Ark we are able to provide Specialist Care and Nursing for babies, children and young people, supporting their full clinical, emotional, social and practical needs. We have created a space where children who are seriously unwell are accepted as they are, safe to play, explore, express themselves and build confidence.

Rated as ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission, the charity has had a sustained period of growth over the last two years and we are looking for high quality employees to come and be a part of that success.

Our expert staff and trained volunteers provide clinical, emotional and practical support for families across North and Central London and Hertsmere. We carefully adapt our support for every child and offer it wherever it is required - whether in their home, their community or at our state-of-the-art children’s hospice building, The Ark, in Barnet.
