Job summary
The therapies department offers a variety of therapies that make a significant difference to patients, their families, and carers. This includes Physiotherapy, Complementary Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Lymphoedema management and support.
Interventions aim to reduce the impact of physical, psychological and social challenges that arise throughout the patients palliative/end of life journey, working with patients to enable them to adapt to their diverse, sometimes complex needs.
Working as part of the wider MDT, the therapies team utilises specialist knowledge and skills to empower and enable a patient to maintain their independence and physical ability, for as long as possible while managing symptoms of a life limiting condition and potential side effects of treatment
Main duties of the job
This dynamic post requires the post holder to work closely with the therapy team and the wider MDT to provide care, intervention and support to hospice patients with a wide range of life limiting conditions.
Working in a variety of settings, the post holder will work autonomously to deliver person centred, evidence based Physiotherapy intervention within a rehabilitative approach.

Contribute to the provision of specialist palliative and end of life care needs for hospice patients.
Ensure a rehabilitative approach to empower patients to live well until they die.

The post holder will
Be a Health and Care Professions Councils (HCPC) registered Physiotherapist and adhere to and apply their high standards of professional code of conduct and the code of ethics and professional conduct of the Chartered society of Physiotherapy and all relevant guidance.
Be professionally accountable and responsible for all aspects of own work.
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual high-quality programmes of therapy within professional framework, liaising with the multi- disciplinary team and other therapists as appropriate.
Prescribe, give advice, educate, provide instruction and training to ensure safe use of appropriate equipment and document accordingly in line with hospice policy / procedures.
Using time and resources effectively and efficiently
Provide intervention to patients across the hospice services as the service demands.
Carry out home visits to assess patients in the home environment, for example, those being discharged from the IPU or where patients are unable to attend outpatients due to deterioration of their condition.
Work closely with patients, families and carers to provide holistic physiotherapy assessment.
Participate in family meetings and MDTs as appropriate.
Contribute to the development and implementation of effective mechanisms for communicating information concerning patient care including the completion of accurate and comprehensive records on the Hospice Patient Database
Prioritise and co-ordinate your workload according to the needs of patients/carers.
Communicate and work closely with the therapies team and wider MDT.
Ensure effective communication with outside agencies.
Ensure the welfare and safety of patients and carers whilst receiving therapies.
Contribute to and work in line with the values and ethos of the hospice.
Contribute towards storing, ordering, and managing stock.
To assist in the planning and implementing of group work with patients and carers including fatigue, breathlessness and falls prevention with the MDT.
To assist in the education, development of and support for the therapies support team and health professionals.
Keep abreast of relevant developments within Physiotherapy, palliative and cancer care and to understand the implications of these for practice.
Maintain & develop knowledge and skills to deliver a range of interventions and set an example of good practice.
