Job summary

The Business Development Manager is a valued member of the senior leadership team, contributing towards the strategic growth and development of services within the organisation. Working closely with colleagues you will have the exciting prospect of developing services in line with the needs of carers in a manner that can be sustained and is impact focused.

Main duties of the job

The role oversees several functions of the charity: fundraising, marketing, digital services, training and community engagement.

Utilising your team, you will:

  • Increase awareness of the charity and of carers through effective marketing campaigns
  • Ensure communications with carers are effective, efficient and impactful
  • Engage supporters, volunteers and the wider community with our mission
  • Support the team to have adequate resources to deliver the services that are needed
  • Turn ideas into proposals that are in line with the organisations strategic vision
  • Foster a Digital First approach across the organisation

  • To grow the organisations income to meet the growing need and increased costs of service delivery
  • To deliver effective operational leadership of the business and central services functions of Carers in Bedfordshire, including finance, IT, digital services, fundraising, governance, marketing and facilities.
  • Identify and deliver plans to ensure the finance and support service functions within CIB are effective, and deliver best value, in facilitating the charity to achieve its objectives.
  • The post holder will work with the Chief Executive, Operations Manager and Finance and Central Services Manager to ensure services are able to grow both in line with demand and in line with our vision.

Job Context:Founded in 2004, Carers in Bedfordshire has experienced a meteoric rise from a peer support group to an organisation that supports over 8,000 unpaid carers across Bedfordshire. Our dedicated staff team and army of volunteers are key to our success but with an estimated 40,000 unpaid carers in Bedfordshire the need to grow remains ever present.

Hours: 25 - 35 hours per week; some weekend and/or evening work may be required

Duties and responsibilities:

Business planning and improvement

  • Work across all departments to develop plans and strategies to ensure functions are cost effective, forward thinking and achieve organisational objectives
  • Identify and oversee the delivery of cross-organisational strategies, programmes and projects to improve service quality and/or efficiency
  • Develop medium- and long-term plans as required to maintain and sustain services including through funding transitions and/or to address unmet need

Fundraising and Marketing

  • Develop and maintain a relevant income and marketing strategy that will maximise and utilise the charities exceptional local reputation to deliver organisational objectives
  • Oversee CiBs fundraising activities to ensure meet or exceed fundraising targets and maintain positive relationships with funders
  • Monitor income and effectiveness of fundraising campaigns, producing accurate financial information and keep appropriate funding records for auditing purposes
  • Monitor effectiveness of marketing campaigns, producing accurate engagement information

Income generation

  • Lead the fundraising team to deliver income in line with income generation targets and meet reporting requirements
  • Develop and manage short term contracts with statutory bodies
  • Monitor income and effectiveness of fundraising campaigns, producing accurate financial information and keep appropriate funding records for auditing purposes
  • Lead or support bid, tender and business case writing

Digital

  • Oversee CiBs digital services, IT infrastructure and systems ensuring they meet the current and future needs of the organisation
  • Manage, review and monitor outsourced contracts and agreements
  • Ensure appropriate security of data, premises and other CIB property and/or assets

Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain proactive, collaborative and effective relationships with CIB staff and volunteers
  • Develop and maintain proactive, collaborative and effective strategic relationships with commissioners, contract managers, partners and funders to maximise the charitys influence and ability to deliver quality services

Other responsibilities

  • Ensure personal information is collected, stored, and managed appropriately ensuring confidentiality of information as appropriate, including compliance with Data Protection legislation and guidelines
  • To contribute to organisational effectiveness through positive team-working and upholding Carers in Bedfordshires values
