Job summary

We have an exciting new role for a Facilities Support Coordinator. You will provide both operational and administrative support across the Hospice facilities and estates services.

Main duties of the job

The role supports the effective day-to-day running of facilities functions including laundry operations, estates coordination, sustainability initiatives, and waste management processes.

The post holder helps ensure that Hospice environments remain safe, clean, dignified, and well maintained, supporting patient comfort, infection prevention, and efficient operational delivery across the organisation.

About us

St Elizabeth Hospice is an independent charity & hospice, which improves life for people in the East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth & Waveney areas living with a progressive or life-limiting illness.

Established in 1989, the hospice has built a reputation for delivering high-level care to patients & the community it serves. Last year the charity supported over 4,000 patients & their families. The hospices work is centred on the individual's needs and they provide specialist support wherever it is needed; whether that is in the home, another setting in the community, in hospital or in the hospice itself. Support is provided to patients and their families via the Inpatient Unit, the Community Care Unit including outpatients clinics, home visits from the community nursing, medical or therapy team, the OneCall 24/7 telephone helpline and bereavement support.

Key Accountabilities

Facilities Operations Support

  • Provide operational support to the Facilities and Estates teams to ensure the smooth running of facilities services.
  • Act as a coordination point for facilities-related operational activities.
  • Liaise with Estates colleagues regarding maintenance requests, minor works coordination, and operational requirements.
  • Maintain accurate facilities records and support administrative processes relating to estates activities and facilities services.

Laundry Services

  • Carry out day-to-day laundry duties within the Hospice laundry facility.
  • Ensure correct segregation of clean and soiled linen in line with infection prevention and control guidance.
  • Operate laundry equipment safely and in accordance with training and manufacturer guidance.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and organisation within the laundry environment.

Infection Prevention & Control

  • Follow infection prevention and control procedures including appropriate use of PPE and hand hygiene.
  • Support the prevention of cross-contamination through safe handling, storage, and transportation of laundry.
  • Escalate concerns relating to infection risks, damaged linen, or operational issues promptly.
  • Support audits or improvement actions relating to infection prevention practices.

Sustainability & Waste Coordination

  • Support the Hospices environmental sustainability objectives.
  • Assist with coordination of waste management processes including segregation, recycling, and safe disposal.
  • Promote environmentally responsible working practices across the organisation.
  • Support monitoring and reporting of waste and recycling performance where required.
  • Assist with initiatives designed to reduce environmental impact and improve resource efficiency.

Reception Coordination

  • Provide coordination support for reception services where operationally required.
  • Assist with ensuring reception areas remain organised, welcoming, and operationally effective.
  • Support communication between reception, facilities, and estates teams regarding operational issues affecting the front-of-house environment.
  • Provide occasional reception cover or coordination support during periods of absence, high demand, or operational need.

Health, Safety & Operational Practice

  • Follow safe systems of work including COSHH guidance and manual handling procedures.
  • Report accidents, incidents, hazards, or equipment faults promptly through the agreed reporting systems.
  • Contribute to a positive health and safety culture across the Hospice.
  • Provide ad-hoc support to Health and Safety where required.

Equipment & Stock Management

  • Carry out routine cleaning and basic checks of laundry equipment and facilities areas.
  • Report maintenance issues or defects to ensure timely repair.
  • Monitor and restock laundry consumables including detergents, PPE, and linen supplies.

Collaboration & Care Environment

  • Work respectfully alongside clinical and operational teams to minimise disruption to patient care.
  • Handle patient clothing and linen sensitively, maintaining dignity and confidentiality.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues across departments to support smooth operational delivery.

Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute ideas to improve facilities services, operational efficiency, and sustainability.
