Job summary

Are you looking for a meaningful way to support your community in Crewe? We are seeking empathetic, reliable, and patient-focused individuals to join our team as Ambulance Care Assistants on an adhoc basis.

This role focuses on Non-Emergency Patient Transport. You will be the friendly face that helps vulnerable patients.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Transport: Provide safe, door-to-door transport for patients attending hospital appointments, dialysis, or discharge clinics.

Care & Support: Assist patients with mobility challenges, using specialist equipment such as tail lifts, wheelchairs, and stretchers.

Safety First: Conduct daily vehicle safety checks and ensure the interior is kept to high clinical cleanliness standards (IPC protocols).

Communication: Maintain clear contact with the control room and hospital staff regarding arrival times and patient status.

Empathy: Offer a reassuring presence, ensuring every patient feels respected and cared for during their journey.

What Were Looking For

Driving License: A full UK manual driving license (usually held for at least 2 years). Note: Some vehicles may require a C1 category, but this is not always essential.

People Skills: A genuine desire to help people and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

Flexibility: As this is an adhoc role, you should be comfortable with a varying schedule. Perfect for those looking to supplement other income or balance personal commitments.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Safe Patient Transfer: Transporting non-emergency patients to and from hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes, ensuring they are comfortable and secure throughout the journey.

Mobility Assistance: Using specialist equipment including tail lifts, carry chairs, and stretchers to assist patients with limited mobility or those who are wheelchair-bound.

Clinical Observations: Monitoring the patients well-being during transit and reporting any changes in their condition to medical staff upon arrival.

Vehicle Maintenance: Performing daily pre-shift checks on oil, water, and tires, and ensuring the vehicle is stocked with necessary medical consumables.

Infection Control: Adhering to strict hygiene standards by deep-cleaning the ambulance interior and equipment between patient transfers to prevent cross-contamination.

Accurate Record Keeping: Completing journey logs, patient care records, and incident reports accurately using both digital tablets and paper forms.

To provide professional, safe, and compassionate non-emergency transportation for patients across the Crewe area. You will ensure that individuals with varying mobility needs reach their medical appointments, treatments, or home discharges comfortably and on time.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Patient Care: Provide a high standard of care and dignity to patients, many of whom may be elderly, disabled, or vulnerable.

Safe Mobility: Safely operate specialist manual handling equipment, including wheelchair clamps, tail lifts, and carry chairs, to assist patients in and out of the vehicle.

Driving Excellence: Drive a modified ambulance vehicle safely and efficiently, navigating Crewe and surrounding Cheshire routes while adhering to all road safety laws.

Daily Maintenance: Conduct thorough vehicle "walk-around" checks at the start of each shift (fuel, fluids, tires) and report any mechanical issues.

Infection Control: Maintain a sterile environment by cleaning the vehicle interior and sanitising equipment between every patient transfer.

Communication: Liaison with the control room via radio or MDT (Mobile Data Terminal) to receive shift details and provide real-time updates on patient status.
