Job summary

Kingston GP Chambers are delighted to be supporting the Surbiton and Chessington Primary Care Network (PCN) with their recruitment for a Safeguarding Lead.

The Surbiton & Chessington PCNs Ltd includes Surbiton Health Centre PCN and Chessington & Surbiton PCN, which work together through a limited company with a joint Board: Surbiton & Chessington PCNs Limited.

The PCNs have 3- and 5-member GP practices respectively, and together account for a total registered population of close to 66,000. The networks have diverse communities including commuter areas, young families, deprived pockets, and frail elderly / care homes. The PCNs vision is to help to maintain and improve the health and healthcare for our local populations, and the sustainability of our member GP practices, in line with wider NHS strategies and plans.

The post-holder will have a key role in overseeing the quality of safeguarding practice within the PCN, providing support to clinical practitioners and ensuring timely and smooth information exchange between relevant safeguarding partners within the legal framework and supporting the strategic direction across the organisation.

The PCN are very flexible with with this opportunity being a full-time position or part-time depending on the successful candidate's availability

Main duties of the job

Purpose of the role:

We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic and forward thinking practitioner to work within our PCN. We are looking for someone who can work autonomously, is reliable and flexible and can demonstrate expertise in safeguarding.

We expect an excellent knowledge of the legislation that supports work to safeguard children and adults. Experience of report writing, audit, supervision/ teaching will be important to help you in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Record, action and follow up caseload where safeguarding issues are present and ensure relevant GP practices are informed
  • Timely completion of safeguarding reports-e.g. information requests from local authority or relevant agencies such as MARAC
  • Attendance at meetings relevant to your caseload such as child case conferences and strategy meetings
  • Work with clinicians and service users/ patients to ensure actions are being followed up, evaluated and co-ordinated around the needs of the user
  • Liaison role- ensure good communication with professionals in relevant organisations such as local hospital, health visitor, children's services and multidisciplinary health care team.
  • Act as the first port of call for service users/ patients / families as appropriate
  • Make referrals to other professionals/agencies where these will be beneficial.

Kingston GP Chambers is a Federation of all NHS General Practices within the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames. It was founded in 2008 as a limited company whose shareholders are all 20 GP Practices within Kingston. The company is led by a Board of Directors who are also GP Partners in their own Practices within Kingston.

Kingston GP Chambers has worked collaboratively with both secondary care and the private sector. At present we provide community clinics for Dermatology, Urology, Neurology, Dementia and Diabetes.

In addition, Kingston GP Chambers are at the forefront of improving patient access to primary care. We deliver a comprehensive extended hours service offering GP appointments across three hubs in the evenings Monday to Friday, over the weekend and on Bank Holidays.

Kingston GP Chambers has the ability to respond rapidly, and we have continued to demonstrate the capability to provide high-quality, innovative and timely solutions to improving patient care and experience.

We work closely alongside the other GP Federations in Southwest London to continue the government's five-year forward plan and deliver patient services in the community.

We aim to continue to grow as we are increasingly recognised as the provider of choice for extended, enhanced and urgent GP services.

We also expect an increasing role as we support, reinforce and develop the position of general practice as the core building block for an increasing range of jointly-provided services.
