Job summary

City Hospice is a compassionate charity, dedicated to empowering individuals during their end-of-life journey, providing knowledgeable and responsible care. As a member of the Senior Management team, the postholder will be responsible for the management of the clinical support functions to ensure the efficient and smooth running of the palliative care service. The post will report directly to the Clinical Director, and will work as part of the leadership team to support our strategy of being recognised as the centre of excellence for palliative care in Cardiff. The Hospice Practice Manager will take an active role in the development of City Hospice culture and values, to maintain our reputation for delivering excellent patient care.

Main duties of the job

At City Hospice ,we believe that every person matters, we strive to enhance quality of life, and offer exceptional support for both the patient and their family. The postholder will provide leadership and vision, overseeing all aspects of the clinical support functions, optimising efficiency and financial performance and ensuring City Hospice achieves its long-term strategic objectives in a safe and effective working environment.

About us

City Hospice was established in as a charity in 1984, and we are currently looking forward to celebrating 40 years of caring for the residents of Cardiff.

Ours is a small team comprising Clinical, Counselling and Business Support staff working together to achieve our vision of providing palliative care and bereavement counselling services which are widely recognised as reflecting best practice in a centre of excellence.

We have created a family environment which incorporates staff, families and volunteers. We celebrate life and enjoy a relaxed working environment, but never lose sight of our duty to , and responsibility for our patients.

Management

Line management of clinical administration and MDT to include a full range of activities including performance, annual leave and sickness management. Lead regular team meetings to develop a team strategic focus on delivering business objectives.

Clinical Standards

The postholder will be expected to liaise closely with the Clinical Director and Senior Clinical team to implement policies, strategies, guidelines and initiatives related to palliative care services.

The postholder will identify, evidence and report instances where KPIs are not being met.

Responsible for day centre administrative resources

Governance

Responsible for coordinating and delivering the end-to-end process of the clinical audit.

Ensure that the delivery of palliative care services are consistent with policy, strategy and guidance, to include relevant governance, quality and operational frameworks.

Support the development and delivery of the Governance framework for non-clinical aspects of care and service delivery.

Take a leading role in investigating and managing incidents, complaints, and concerns.

Ensure compliance against all clinical standards. Act as the responsible manager for compliance and regulatory standards.

Financial and Planning Responsibility

Responsible for the development and management of the Clinical Department budget.

Responsible for embedding a culture of value for money and financial awareness.

Responsibility for the maintenance of the clinical rota and smooth running of the service in conjunction with the Clinical and Business Support Leads

Manage services as required to meet contractual, quality and safety expectations.

Take an active role in the Project Oversights Committee

Business planning and development - stay updated on opportunities, set goals and generate ideas to enhance patient services.

Grants and Trusts

Identify grant opportunities in line with strategic business objectives.

Work with the Finance team and Grants and Legacies officer to formulate and cost projects for grants applications and contracts.

Responsible for ensuring that appropriate measures are in place and data/reports are produced accurately, in line with milestone requirements.

Communication

Ensure effective communication to enhance working relationships across the team.

Ensure communication and working relationships are effective, and that staff are engaged in the decision-making rationale.

Generate and share knowledge and expertise with all members of the multi professional team, utilising any new knowledge to feedback and inform practice.

Committee Responsibility

Manage, attend, and contribute to Service Level Agreement Meetings with Cardiff and Vale UHB when required.

Membership of internal and external committees/groups as appropriate.

Member of Health and Safety Committee. Responsible for ensuring that Health and Safety Policies are understood and observed

Member of Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity group.
