Main duties of the job

Are you a registered professional with senior leadership experience? This post is offered on a full time, permanent basis, working 37.5 hours per week (flexibility will be considered).

Please note, the successful candidate will be an essential car user, therefore candidates must have a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

St Catherines Hospice is a respected local charity providing specialist hospice care alongside statutory service partners (GPs, District nursing etc) across West Sussex and East Surrey.

The day- to-day provision of outstanding hospice care for the last 45 years is the basis of our local reputation and from this reputation for excellence we draw on the affection and support of thousands of funders, volunteers and supporters.

Individual accountability

The Care Services Director (CSD) is jointly responsible with the Medical Director (MD) for the for the operational delivery of all StCH clinical services (the service model) providing robust and effective assurance evidence of its value and quality thereby ensuring it remains compliant with the requirements of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and other relevant bodies. This includes the utilisation, alignment and support of the StCH Clinical Team into our service model, building effective relationship with external partners who deliver alongside our service model so that StCH can demonstrate its commitment to its Charity Objects (see StCH Articles of Association) and deliver its strategic aims (including ensuring StCHs own sustainability).

As a member of the SMT, the CSD plays a key role in the collective leadership of the charitable organisation, supporting the Board, Chief Executive and wider SMT in building and executing StCH strategy including the delivery and oversight of StCH annually agreed business plan (and supporting budget). This will include providing a strategic contextualisation of population health ensuring systems and processes are in place to enable the delivery of high quality, sustainable hospice services which meet our communitys need now and in the future. As a senior leader, the CSD will also represent the Charity internally and externally, enhancing the organisations reputation by acting as an ambassador at all times.

The CSD will act as StCH Registered Manager and manage StCH Inpatient Services, Wellbeing Services, Clinical Support Team as well as the Quality and Data team ensuring an effective interplay with relevant external delivery partners, commissioners and other bodies (eg HospiceUK). The CSD will also provide support to the Community and Medical Teams.

The CSD is the senior registered healthcare professional and will act as a point of expert support to all StCH clinical professionals providing transparent and effective leadership so as to ensure all StCH nurses and allied health professionals are successfully recruited, inducted, developed, utilised and revalidated. The CSD will champion a learning culture ensuring that service facing colleagues maintain the highest standards of professionalism and compulsory education attainment so that each and together they can thrive and deliver their best work.
