Job responsibilities

You will work across the hospice services including the Inpatient Unit, community settings, and the Wellbeing Centre. The Carer and Welfare Support role covers two distinct areas which will require a 50:50 split of the workload. Including early identification of carers and 'hidden carers' and advising patients/carers with financial matters.

Qualifications

Essential

• Experience of working with unpaid
• carers
• Educated to GCSE standard or
• equivalent

Desirable

• Qualification relevant to palliative or end of life care
• Advanced Communication Skills

Experience

Essential

• Understanding and experience of working with carers
• Knowledge and experience of assessing the emotional, practical
• and financial needs of carers
• Proficient in the use of a range of IT applications including Microsoft
• Word, PowerPoint and Excel
• Able to work independently and deliver objectives within a given
• timeframe
• Ability to manage the emotional impact of working with the dying and
• bereaved
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Working knowledge of multi-cultural needs
• Understanding of loss and grief and its impact on individuals and families and their social networks
• Working knowledge of relevant statutory and voluntary agencies
• Knowledge of benefit application processes and grant funding
• applications

Desirable

• Experience of working in a palliative or end of life care setting
• Volunteer management experience
• Track record of successful involvement in developing new services and of evaluating and implementing service improvements
• Experience of planning and delivering training informally and formally
• Knowledge and experience of using outcome measures in practice
• Knowledge of relevant national policy and practice initiatives in palliative and end of life care and carers
• Previous experience working within local government or health or social
• care system
