Main duties of the job

St Catherines Hospice are looking to recruit an additional Consultant to join the well-established Medical and Clinical team.

The consultants role is to provide specialist medical care and leadership. It carries clinical, educational, managerial and governance responsibilities.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MB BS or equivalent
  • Entered on specialist register for palliative medicine or within 6 months of CCT date at the time of interview.
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration and licence to practice
  • Experience of teaching healthcare professionals, including undergraduates, postgraduates and doctors in training.
  • Experience of acting as a clinical supervisor to doctors in training (A)
  • Accredited Educational Supervisor (or working towards) (A)
  • Understanding of the principles and applications of quality improvement, audit, and service development.
  • Understanding of the principles and application of clinical governance.
  • Competent in use of IT systems, including Microsoft Office.
  • Understand the principles and applications of clinical research in palliative care.
  • Understanding of wider healthcare structures including the NHS and voluntary sector.
  • Understands the benefits and process for change management
  • Able to take responsibility, work effectively with manager colleagues, and demonstrate leadership
  • Able to work with an appropriate level of uncertainty and risk, using mitigation as needed

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in relevant field e.g. MA, MSc
  • Postgraduate teaching qualification or course attended. (A)
  • Experience of teaching using simulation and human factors assessment techniques
