Main duties of the job

You will be working in our Ward where you will assist the registered nurses in delivering essential, hands on, and personalised care for our patients. This is a great time to join us ahead of our move towards a new, larger hospice at Pease Pottage in 2023.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, a professional demeanour and display a commitment to providing a high standard of care to our patients.An NVQ 3 in Health/Social care or relevant experience in Care work is an advantage but not essential as full training will be given. Candidates should have a sound understanding of health and safety procedures and infection prevention & control.

This post is offered on a part time basis, working 34.5 hour per week worked on a shift basis over 7 days,plus pay enhancements.Pay enhancements for working 'unsocial' hours are as follows:

  • All time worked on a Saturday, any ad hoc weekday hours after 10pm and before 7am, whole night shift and bank holidays * - usual hourly rate plus 30%
  • All time worked on Sundays * - usual hourly rate plus 30%

We are located in Malthouse Road, Crawley, West Sussex, which is within commuting distance from Brighton and London and just a 5-minute walk from Crawley railway station.In Autumn of 2023 we will be relocating to Pease Pottage where this role will then be based.

  • Care Certificate
  • NVQ 2/3 in Health/Social care or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of caring
  • Awareness of health and safety procedures and infection prevention and control and how they affect people in the workplace
  • Excellent professional communication skills. Awareness of ways that may help to overcome barriers to communication (dementia, sensory disability, confusion, Non English speaking, etc.)
  • Ability to use own initiative to plan own work for the shift in order to meet the needs of a given group of patients.
  • Ability to work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • An understanding of basic nutrition needs
  • Able to demonstrate methods of promoting dignity
  • Communication skills (both verbal and written) proficient in English.
  • Be able to effectively communicate with compassion and understanding with people on a variety of levels using tact, diplomacy, and empathy
  • Ability to undertake training and direct own learning
