Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Brian House Childrens Hospice on the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Coast for dynamic experienced manager with a visionary and proactive approach who will be able to support a competent and passionate nursing team to manage the day to day running of the childrens hospice supporting families who require our specialist care.
This is a really exciting opportunity for an experienced manager to work with a team at a transformational phase in our development as we move towards a more integrated care system across Lancashire and South Cumbria.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have responsibility for the delivery of high quality, responsive, safe, efficient and compassionate care supported by the Assistant Clinical Director.
We strive to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, psychological, and social requirements of patients, families, and carers, and we endeavour to provide the greatest possible quality of life for patients by delivering treatment that is tailored to their specific needs.
The purpose of the role is to manage the day to day running of the childrens hospice both inpatient, day care and community care.

To be a dynamic visible service leader. As the hospice manager you will be responsible for the embedding of quality care delivery within the team and providing assurance reports to the senior team.
To lead on further developing Brian House to support the vision and values of Trinity in meeting the changing needs of the children and families on the Blackpool Fylde and Wyre Coast. Our aim is to reach out to all the families who have a child with a palliative care need and supporting when and where they need it which can include in the child’s own home, the hospice, hospital, or any other setting the child may require support in.
The hospice manager will be responsible for ensuring the service is consistent with all the Trinity Services and will be required to work collaboratively under the Assistant Clinical Director to ensure expertise, support and service standards are of the highest quality keeping the child at the centre of all developments
The hospice manager will be responsible for ensuring the service is well led, ensuring links with the wider system and developing an integrated approach to Paediatric Palliative and end of Life care ensuring accessibility and consistency to all, reaching as many children and families as possible delivering and developing quality services. The current services provided include direct clinical care, respite, family support, sibling support, end of life care and symptom management, tots, baby, parent, and grandparent groups.
The hospice manager will be responsible for:
· Embedding positive leadership, communication, and teamwork across the Strategic Network supporting the Assistant Clinical Director and within the team with clear escalation when senior support is required.
· Establishing robust and effective working relationships with the different departments including the inpatient unit, children’s counselling services, community team, living well service, administration team, volunteers, pharmacy and facilities team.
· Ensuring the team are empowered to lead on the delivery of aspects of service or business requirements with oversight and support
· Ensuring every role within the care team has clear, effective line management in place monitoring wellbeing, performance, clinical competencies and professional development supported by the Trainee Advance Clinical Practitioner and Paediatric Consultant for advice regarding competencies required.
· Supporting seamless integration and positive teamwork between each team and different grades within the team.
· Ensuring all relevant policies and procedures are up to date.
· Ensuring incident reporting and processes are adhered to for governance assurance.
· Ensuring an effective teaching and supervision structure is in place and that accurate and up to date records are maintained.
An essential part of this role is ensuring families are welcomed, engaged, and listened to throughout their journey with Brian House and this will influence the service provided. This includes ensuring that:
· The child remains the centre of all decisions and their voice is evidenced in the care delivery and records.
· Individualised care is delivered, and families are supported throughout their journey, particularly during a crisis or at the end of their life in the child and families preferred place of care/death.
· Children and families have confidence in the service that we provide and the quality of clinical care delivered.
· The welfare of children and young people is safeguarded and promoted.
The Children’s Hospice Manager is responsible for ensuring the relationship with other providers is a positive collaboration ensuring care is delivered to families in a joined-up approach to support seamless communication and care delivery whilst improving standards, sharing expertise, and reducing duplication for families.
The Hospice Manager will provide strong visible leadership ensuring that learning safety and quality are embedded routinely into the culture of the team ensuring:
· The values and behaviours of Trinity are embedded and visible in the team culture.
· Risk assessment and awareness systems are robust, and a culture of safety, shared learning and reflective practice is in place.
· That clear clinical standards are maintained, and assurance processes are in place to ensure care delivery is of the highest standards including but not limited to clinical care, infection control, medication management, moving and handling, tissue viability, health and safety and information governance including documentation standards with the support of the Trainee Advance Clinical Practitioner and the Paediatric Palliative Consultant.
· Clear staff development programmes are in place with visible leadership, ensuring that the wider team implements dynamic learning and training programmes delivering compliance with mandatory training and the continued development of expertise and professional development within the care team ensuring the available workforce is competent and confident.
