Helen & Douglas House is entering a dynamic phase of growth and development within our Outreach Nursing Service. As a result of colleagues progressing into exciting new opportunities, we are delighted to be recruiting two Band 7 Children's Outreach Specialist Nurses.

Main duties of the job

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a highly skilled, well-established Outreach Nursing Team delivering expert childrens palliative care across community settings within our six-county catchment area. You will work autonomously, providing specialist clinical support, symptom management, and leadership to children, families, and professionals throughout the palliative care pathway. You will be part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team of nurses, doctors, family support services and volunteers, within an organisation renowned for excellence in childrens hospice care. We are looking for an experienced childrens nurse with strong community experience, specialist palliative or complex care expertise, and the confidence to make a real difference where it matters most. Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (Child branch)
  • Current NMC registration
  • Educated to degree level
  • Post graduate study in relevant area
  • Community qualification or extensive experience.
  • Qualification in History Taking and Assessment or to be working towards achieving this within first 18 months of employment
  • Non-Medical Prescribing (or a willingness to undertake in 2 years)

Desirable

  • Teaching in the workplace qualification
  • Palliative care qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post-registration experience in childrens palliative care, community nursing or complex care settings.
  • Post-registration experience of working with people acute health needs
  • Experience of working with patients and families with palliative care needs
  • Extensive community nursing experience

Desirable

  • Experience of working with non-verbal people and or those with complex needs.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a related care setting other than a hospital or hospice

Additional Criteria

  • Excellent verbal, written and IT communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and cope with competing pressures
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Up to date knowledge and ability with regard to intravenous therapy and management of syringe drivers
  • Evidence of innovative and evidence-based practice
  • Ability to demonstrate a high standard of clinical and theoretical knowledge of palliative care for the appropriate age group
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Strong pharmacological knowledge base
  • Ability to motivate others
  • An effective team member

  • A commitment to ongoing professional development
