We are excited to be recruiting for a Consultant Paediatrician with Special Interest in Paediatric Palliative Care to join our established Medical Team in supporting the children and families we care for.
Hours: 6-8 sessions per week
Location: Helen & Douglas House, Oxford
Salary: £194.88 per session

Main duties of the job
This role will work closely with Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire (BOB) Managed Clinical Network (MCN) for children and young peoples (CYP) palliative and end of life care (PEoLC) at a clinical & strategic level (hosted by BOB ICB). As well as Clinical Staff and senior management within Helen & Douglas House and clinical colleagues in paediatric services within Buckinghamshire Health NHS Trust (acute and community).
The post holder will eventually have an NHS Contract at Consultant level from BHT, shared with Helen & Douglas House (to be sought once appointed by HDH).
The role will contribute to strategic development and service improvements in paediatric palliative care in Buckinghamshire, following gaps identified in mapping of services, provide expert Paediatric Palliative Care to children and families on the HDH caseload (particularly across Buckinghamshire), and provide clinical leadership for the provision of symptom management, palliative and end of life care to infants, children and young people with all types of life-limiting conditions and their families, from the antenatal period to transition to adult services.

Qualifications
Essential
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register; Eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) in Paediatrics with a completed SPIN in PPC.
- Evidence of competence in paediatric resuscitation
- Level 3 child protection training
Desirable
- Membership of relevant Specialist Societies or Associations (ICPCN, EAPC, APPM)
- Post-Graduate Diploma in Palliative Medicine (paediatric)
- Post graduate degree in a related area
Knowledge
Essential
- Understanding of the principles of medical research and ability to critically assess evidence.
- Willing to commit to role of clinical supervisor and/or educational supervisor if required
- Knowledge of the death and dying process
- Understanding of rare disorders and their pathways
- Support for advanced care planning, including emergency care planning
- Support for end-of-life decision making, including preferred place of care
- Rapid discharge for end-of-life care, including fast track to hospice or home
- Understanding of psychosocial support for children, young people, families, and professionals
- Understanding of bereavement support options

- Publications related to PPC
- Presentations at local / national / international meetings & conferences

- Wide range of experience in paediatric specialties (ideally including PICU, Oncology and community paediatrics)
