Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity if you are a Registered Nurse whos passionate about delivering exceptional care, not only to the child but to their whole family. This is a permanent full-time role, although part-time hours will be considered. We are run a combination of short and long shifts; early, day, late and night working is required to accommodate a 24/7 service.

You will be an RNC/RSCN/RNLD with paediatric experience, or an RGN (adult nurse) with significant experience and clinical competencies achieved working with babies, children, and young people, looking for a flexible opportunity to provide quality care to babies, children, and young people with palliative and complex care needs.

Main duties of the job

Time is precious, and unlike so many other healthcare providers, we are in the privileged position of giving Nurses the time to deliver holistic one-to-one care to children and families, throughout their palliative care journey. Youll be part of a multi-disciplinary team providing respite, palliative, and bereavement care and support to children with life-limiting conditions. Youll be based on beautiful grounds close to Oxford City Centre: our hospice is a place of laughter, play and real connection, with an atmosphere thats both supportive and inclusive.

As a Band 6 Registered Nurse you will be leading and supporting junior members of staff, students and volunteers, including providing shift leadership to the team.   • RSCN/RN Child/RNLD/RN.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Desirable

  • Palliative care course.

Experience

Essential

  • Teaching/Mentoring qualification, Practice Assessor experience.
  • Post registration experience of: palliative care of children/adults OR working with children with complex health needs OR care of children/adults with disabilities.
  • Experience of managing a group of staff or Team; being able to lead, manage, delegate, and prioritise to ensure safety.
  • Experience of managing staff including appraisal.
  • Experience of effective collaborative working with professionals from other agencies and disciplines.
  • Experience and good understanding of clinical supervision and reflective practice.

Desirable

  • Palliative care experience.

Skills

Essential

  • Able to use skills, knowledge, and experience to care for children, young people, and families, based on individual needs.
  • Evidence of innovative and evidence-based practice.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the key issues of caring for children with life-limiting conditions.
  • Understanding of the impact on the child or young person living with a life limiting illness and on their families.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding childrens policies and procedure. Safeguarding experience including Child in Need, Child Protection, Looked after Children. Knowledge of vulnerable young adults safeguarding procedures (DOLS, MCA etc).
  • An understanding of Clinical Governance and Care Quality Commission standards.
