Primary Work Base:Coventry (with travel to all sites and home visits as required).
NB as we are a multi-site organisation, some flexibility relating to place of work will be required. We reserve the right to change the work baseof our employees to meet our business needs.
The Specialist Physiotherapist will work with people with a range of life limiting conditions which may include: - cancer, cardiac or respiratory conditions or long-term neurological conditions. They will work within the Inpatient Unit and also deliver both individual and group sessions within a range of Wellbeing programmes such as the Fatigue and Breathlessness Programme and Exercise group to people attending the Myton Hospices.

Main Duties &
Responsibilities
Clinical:
- Work as an
autonomous therapist with responsibility for the effective delivery of specialist
physiotherapy services within the inpatient units, outpatients programmes and
with people in their own homes.
- Utilise
previous knowledge and skills to undertake comprehensive assessments and
interventions to provide a responsive service for the needs of the patients and
their families.
- Use advanced
clinical reasoning to select and deliver the most appropriate physiotherapy
techniques for individual and group treatment programmes.
- Record and
evaluate interventions modifying and adapting them to meet the needs of the
patient.
- Deliver therapy
intervention via the telephone and through Microsoft Teams when required.
- Prescribe
and arrange provision of
identified equipment to aid mobility and independence. Provide advice to patients, their family and
carers, and staff teaching and demonstrating the safe use of equipment or
techniques to optimise the patient's mobility, safety and
independence.
- Work in collaboration
with the Occupational therapists and other team members in carrying out
joint interventions including, moving and handling processes, use of
patient handling equipment, delivery of education programs, and home
assessments.
- Participate
in multi-disciplinary team meetings, case conferences, ward rounds, and
handovers to contribute to care planning and raise awareness of the
physiotherapy role.
- Be
responsible for delegation of tasks to therapy technical instructors and
provide relevant training, clinical supervision and appraisal.
- Prioritise
workload to meet the needs of the patients in all clinical areas across
the Myton Hospice sites working flexibly where required.
Organisational:
- Ensure
documentation and reporting is completed accurately in line with the Chartered
Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) professional standards and the organisation's
standards.
- In
collaboration with the Quality and Clinical Governance Lead; participate in
local audit, disseminate outcomes and ensure that any improvements are
undertaken.
Training
and Education:
- Maximise
opportunities to promote the Physiotherapy role and skills through induction,
in-service training, hospice events and by providing external training where
required.
- Participate in
planning, coordination and supervision of Physiotherapy students and other
students on placements within Myton Hospices.
- Undertake
responsibility for own continuous professional development and maintain a
portfolio and record of activity as evidence for HCPC audit. Ensure mandatory
training is undertaken as required and competency for use of equipment is
maintained.
- Contribute to
the development of the Therapy services in line with evidence-based guidelines
and strategic developments.
- Participate in
the development of electronic patient records and record statistical data as
required.
Professional:
- Maintain
registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Work in accordance with the
HCPC Code of Standards of conduct, performance and ethics, the Code of Ethics
and Professional Conduct for Physiotherapy and the Professional Standards for
Physiotherapy Practice.
- Participate in
relevant specialist interest group meetings to contribute to development of
palliative care services within the Physiotherapy profession.
- Participate in
clinical supervision and performance appraisal to ensure personal professional
development.

Policies and Procedures:The post holder is
required to have a good understanding of, and to comply with, all relevant Myton
policies, procedures and guidelines. Any contravention of Myton policies or
procedures may result in disciplinary action.

Confidentiality and Data protection:It is a requirement of
employment with Myton that all staff must comply with the obligation of confidentiality
relating to personal information that could identify individuals. The Data
Protection Act 1974/1998 safeguards the handling of information held in both
electronic and manual filing systems and it is the duty of all staff employed
by Myton to uphold the principles of the Act, adhere to Myton policies and to
maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
Infection Control: All employees of Myton
must be aware of infection prevention and control policies and are expected
to follow them at all times. Any breach of infection control policies which
places patients, visitors or colleagues at risk may result in disciplinary
action.

Health & Safety: Employees
must be aware of the responsibilities placed upon them under the Health and
Safety at Work Act 1974, to ensure the agreed safety procedures are carried
out to maintain a safe working environment for patients, visitors & colleagues.
The post holder is required to conform with Mytons policies on Health & Safety
and Fire Prevention, & to attend related training as required.
Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and Children:Its the duty of all staff working
for Myton to safeguard children and vulnerable adults and undertake
safeguarding training at an appropriate level.
Code of Conduct: Employees are required to represent
Myton in a positive light and embody the corporate identity in appearance,
demeanour, values and ethics.
