At The Myton Hospices, we provide specialist care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses, and their loved ones, from the point of diagnosis to end of life. We are a much-loved and well supported charity, at the heart of our community. We have three hospices, a range of community services, and 25 charity shops in Coventry and Warwickshire.
We have an exciting opportunity to join our friendly Hospitality team as a Cleaning and Catering Assistant.
You'll play an essential part in keeping our hospice operating safely, so that we can continue to deliver high-quality palliative and end of life care.
This role will mainly be based at our Warwick hospice, however, you may be required to travel to our Coventry and Rugby sites on occasion.
This role is known as 'Hospitality Assistant' internally.
Main duties of the job
As a Cleaning and Catering Assistant, you will:
- Alternate working in catering and cleaning
- Prepare and serve meals for patients, visitors, staff members and volunteers
- Carry out cleaning and washing up duties
- Maintain high standards of hygiene and safety
About you
We would love to hear from you if you have:
- Kitchen Assistant, Catering or Housekeeping experience
- Food safety and hygiene knowledge
- A willingness to undertake training
- The right to work in the UK (we cannot provide sponsorship)
We will carry out a standard DBS check if you are appointed, because this role involves contact with patients. We will cover the cost of this check.

Cleaning & Catering Assistant (known internally as Hospitality Assistant) Job Description
To prepare and generate breakfast, lunch and evening meals and serve to patients in line with training and instructions provided by Apetito. To ensure appropriate standards of cleanliness are maintained throughout Myton Hospices in conjunction with agreed procedures and cleaning standards. Specific focus on clinical and patients areas to set standards.
Catering Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve meals to patients as per instructions and training provided by Apetito and in line with Level 2 Food hygiene training.
- To provide washing up and cleaning duties within the kitchen to ensure food safety, cleanliness, hygiene and COSHH standards are adhered to.
- To issue and retrieve menus to patients for meal choices.
- To ensure the dining room is regularly cleaned and tidied between use.
- To prepare hot and cold meals for staff an visitor lunches and sandwiches for the vending machine. (The hot option will be prepared in the same way that patient hot meals are prepared). Assist with the stocking of the vending machine when required.
- To serve patient meals on the Inpatient Unit in line with expected hygiene standards.
- Undertake regular checks and cleaning duties in the kitchen to ensure food safety and hygiene standards are maintained to a high level at all times.
Cleaning Responsibilities
- Undertake cleaning throughout all areas of the Hospice, including but not limited to: patient rooms; clinics; toilets; bathrooms; offices; reception; and communal areas.
- Undertake cleaning of clinical and patient areas to agreed standards, including daily cleaning schedules and deep cleaning.
- Carry out 'periodic cleaning' tasks as per agreed schedule and when required.
- Cleaning schedules and standards to comply with CQC and infection control requirements.
- To comply with Health and Safety legislation, and be aware of the safe use of all Housekeeping products in relation to COSHH and infection control.
- Visually inspect Housekeeping and Laundry tools and equipment daily to ensure operator safety. All defects to be reported to the Hospitality Team Leader.
- Ensure Housekeeping trollies are replenished after use and that all equipment is cleaned or laundered after use.
- Undertake, as appropriate, laundry service, to ensure clean linen and supplies are available as required. To collect used linen for laundering from disposal areas.
- To ensure all linen cupboards are kept appropriately stocked at all times.
- Undertake other duties as required by the Hospitality Team Leader or Head of Facilities to assist with the operational needs of the organisation.
