Main duties of the job

Identify, implement and monitor the clinical requirements associated with research to ensure optimum delivery of clinical trials.

Conduct research in accordance with the research governance framework and clinical practice guidelines to provide assurance that the rights, safety and wellbeing of trial participants are protected.

Demonstrate detailed understanding of research methodology, design and clinical audit to ensure protocols, frameworks and guidance are adhered to, and apply evidence-based research findings to professional practice.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Identify, implement and monitor the clinical requirements associated with research to ensure optimum delivery of clinical trials.

Conduct research in accordance with the research governance framework and clinical practice guidelines to provide assurance that the rights, safety and wellbeing of trial participants are protected

Demonstrate detailed understanding of research methodology, design and clinical audit to ensure protocols, frameworks and guidance are adhered to, and apply evidence-based research findings to professional practice

In collaboration with the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) South West Peninsula (SWP) Regional Research Delivery Network to identify research opportunities for Cornwall Hospice Care

Accountable for the assessment, planning, organisation and ongoing care of research participants to ensure the maximising of protocols and good clinical practice

Develop relationships with other clinical research nurses throughout the south west to share findings and best practice, contributing information to the local clinical research network as appropriate to assist with achieving group aims and objectives

Assist in the identification of suitable protocols, taking account of available resource and skills, to expand Cornwall Hospice Cares clinical research portfolio

Encourage and support both those new to research and more experienced researchers to enable the achievement of research ambitions, including facilitating students in the development and implementation of research projects they are involved in as part of their training programme

Develop and co-ordinate training programmes in relation to the study protocols to respond to the learning needs of colleagues including students

Identify barriers to recruitment to studies, ensuring that issues are escalated appropriately in order that action plans can be implemented to address them

Lead on developing research links with external teams including NIHR and the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth, to enhance Cornwall Hospice Care reputation as a research active organisation

Evaluate the changing needs of the research portfolio within Cornwall Hospice Care, to enable adaptation of the delivery in the light of local audits, national guidance and service developments

Present progress reports on designated work to members of the research group or to external audiences, to disseminate and publicise research findings

Attend the quarterly Patient Improvement, Research and Innovation (PIRI) meetings when required, to provide consistency and continuity

Foster a positive research culture across both hospices, working collaboratively with the teams to support all aspects of research activity from data collection to participants follow up ensuring high quality, consistent engagement throughout research
