Job summary

ELM Alliance are in preparation for the delivery of a Community Contraception Service for South Tees. The Sexual Health service is already established and running and this new clinic is part of the delivery model planned for roll-out from 1st August 2025. To help deliver the services, we are looking for GPs, ideally trained in sexual health. However if you have the transferrable skills that we are looking for, we would still like to hear from you.

The successful candidate will work on a self employed basis and engage in a Contract for Services with ELM Alliance LTD.

The post holder will be expected to assist and work alongside clinical staff in order to meet the needs of the service

As this is a South Tees service, the post holder should have the flexibility to travel to all delivery hubs across the Teesside area.

Main duties of the job

It is expected that the appointee will deliver appointment/walk in clinics for Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC), complex contraception , testing and treatment of STI.

Clinics will consist of booked appointments and walk ins.

The post is supported by a consultant and team of experienced specialist nurses and support staff.

The post holder will be expected to work with the MDT.

The appointee will participate in Clinical Governance, Clinical Audit, CME and meet the annual CPD requirements of the appropriate Royal College / Faculty.

The post holder will be responsible for record keeping.

All individuals are responsible for the records they create. Records must be retained in accordance with the records management policy and stored in a manner that allows them to be easily located in the event of a Freedom of Information request.

The postholder must ensure complete and accurate data is collected to the highest standard. Data collection should be supported by adequate documentation and processes should be reviewed regularly. All staff should ensure that processes conform to national standards and are fit for purpose. All staff should comply with the Data Protection Policy.

All staff are expected to have or to gain a minimum of basic IT skills to enable them to use the IT systems to support the organisation`s services and needs.

Staff should be familiar with relevant IT systems, security policies and procedures.

About us

ELM Alliance Ltd is the Federation of 37 GP Practices in South Tees and acts as a coordinated voice for general practice in the South Tees areas as well as directly providing a range of primary care services within daytime, extended and out of hours. The Company was formed by the GP Practices in 2017 and we have approximately 200 people working for us and with us. We deliver NHS services to the patients of Redcar, East Cleveland and Middlesbrough and are wholly owned by the local GP Practices. Our services include primary care, general practice, clinical services to care homes and community services.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Basic medical qualification registrable in UK and current GMC registration
  • DFSRH (or working towards)
  • Letter of competence in IUC or equivalent
  • Letter of competence in sub-dermal implants or equivalent

Desirable

  • Interest in working towards the MFSRH qualification
  • Management training
  • Research/publications in sexually transmitted infections, contraceptive/reproductive health, and other aspects of sexual health
  • Teaching qualification appropriate to sexual health e.g. faculty registered trainer or meets eligibility criteria
  • Appropriate higher degree (e.g., MSc, MD /PhD) or other postgraduate qualification (e.g. MRCGP, MRCOG)

Experience

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Excellent patient communication
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload and to delegate responsibilities and supervise staff
  • Ability to undertake robust audit within team structure
  • Ability to motivate and inspire a multi-disciplinary team and work sensitively within teams
  • Minimum of 4 years medical work (either continuously or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification, of which a minimum of 2 years should have been in integrated sexual health specialty or a specialty relevant to the specialist interest, including SRH provision in primary care

Desirable

  • Management of sexually transmitted infections and/or Sexually Transmitted Infection (STIF) competency training
  • Clinical experience in other aspects of sexual health i.e., vasectomy, psychosexual medicine, menopause clinics, ultrasound scanning
