Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative GP educator to work closely with the GP Training programme teams across the South West, this opportunity will be working predominantly with the Somerset GP training Programme Team.

Main duties of the job

The role of the fellowship is to work with the Training programme Directors and Associate Dean focussing on the improvement of learner supervision, assessment, educational experience and outcomes for GP trainees.

The successful applicant will work with the local education team and administrators to facilitate the provision of the half day release course for GP Drs in training (DiTs).

About us

The role will be based mainly within the Somerset training programme, working with the training programme directors to deliver the GP curriculum preparing trainees to achieve MRCGP.

The role will involve some working at the Yeovil and Taunton sites most weeks.

Support the local team to deliver a consistent educational and experience for GPSTs (GP Specialist Trainees) in Somerset GP training

Provide pastoral and educational support for trainees in the Somerset programme and where required across the SW Footprint.

Work with the wider TPD team to deliver the educational objectives for the programme.

Training programme Fellows will be line managed by a named Associate Dean.

Qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in Medical Education

  • Knowledge of adult educational theory and practice
  • Understanding of current issues within Primary Care
  • Proven experience of regularly working as a clinician in general practice, after completion of vocational training, with current full registration with the GMC
  • Significant experience of working within the education/health sectors
  • Experience of teaching in higher education
  • Experience in providing support to Drs in training, and awareness of issues facing GP DiTs.
