Job summary

Our HealthCare Assistants work on our Inpatient Unit (IPU), and work closely with our professional nursing team, providing exceptional standards of individualised physical, psychological and spiritual care to patients in IPU and at times supporting our community patients at home, as directed by the Registered Nurse.

This role requires you to carry out duties according to the philosophy of the Hospice, complying at all times with policies relating to safe guarding of vulnerable adults and children whilst, maintaining confidentiality of patients and their families.

Main duties of the job

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:

To work mainly within IPU with a degree of flexibility to support community as and when required

Work alongside professionals to provide exceptional standards of individualised physical, psychological and spiritual care to patients in IPU and at home, as directed by Registered Nurse

Carry out duties according to the philosophy of the Hospice complying at all times with policies relating to safe guarding of vulnerable adults and children whilst, maintaining confidentiality of patients and their families

Represent the organisation and uphold the organisations reputation and values

To support the organisations income generation activity

About us

The Hospice of St Francis is a charity which helps 2,000 local people and their families, in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, to live their precious lives well through improving symptoms, achieving personal goals and helping them to feel safe.

Defined by each persons need, our free care for people managing, or recovering from, serious illness has many forms care at the Hospice, at Home or in our Health and Wellbeing Centre which offers courses, workshops, clinics and therapies.

Based in beautiful surroundings just outside Berkhamsted, were also here for family, friends and carers. We offer advice for those worried about a loved one which could mean recommending group activities, supporting children through a close relatives illness or providing practical support and advice when someone special is no longer here.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Evidence of good general education
  • Competence to deliver direct and intimate personal care
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Desirable
  • Previous experience working in a Hospice or Palliative Care setting
  • Care of dying patients and their families
  • Experience of using electronic patent record systems
  • Current driving licence, with use of own car

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in a Hospice or Palliative Care setting
  • Care of dying patients and their families
  • Experience of using electronic patent record systems
  • Care certificate / NVQ qualified level 2
  • Qualified by experience in a similar role working in a healthcare setting, or community care
  • Care certificate / NVQ qualified level 3 / NVQ 2/3 Health and Social Care
  • Experience delivering care as part of a rostered team working 24/7 365 days/year
  • Proven experience of working in diverse communities, understanding and overcoming the impact of discrimination
  • Previous experience of rehabilitative care.
