Suction Nurse to join our established NHS team and deliver high quality, nurse-led
outpatient micro suction clinics. This role plays a key part in Sentinels
community-based ENT services, delivered across healthcare settings throughout
the city.

Main duties of the job
Lead and
deliver regular micro suction clinics
Maintain a
clean, safe, and well-prepared clinical environment
Provide
occasional support to ENT GPwER outpatient clinics, ensuring equipment is
sterilised and infection control standards are upheld
Apply sound
knowledge of Information and Clinical Governance
Use electronic
patient record systems confidently (e.g., Optum, SystmOne)
Uphold high
standards of care in line with operational policies and national guidelines
Contribute to
excellent patient experience through highquality customer service
Act as an
advocate for patient wellbeing and support continuous service improvement

Job responsibilities
Provision
of micro suction and aural hygiene.
Participate
in the promotion and maintenance of effective communication with the patient.
Develop
and apply communication skills in order to convey complex and sensitive
information effectively to patients, carers and other staff, overcoming any
barriers to understanding and providing support during distressing or emotional
events.
Record
high quality notes of patient assessment data into the electronic patient
record system in a timely manner.
Liaise
with the Administration team to arrange appropriate follow up appointments
/actions and discharges.
Ensure
that patient confidentiality is maintained.
Prepare
clinical rooms with functioning equipment and stock to ensure the smooth
running of clinics.
Ensure
that clinical rooms are clean and meet required cleanliness standards prior to
clinics and clean down appropriately following clinics. Restock and prepare clinical rooms for other
clinics.
Provide
occasional nursing support to the ENT GPwER outpatient clinics where required.
Ensure
up to date knowledge and competence in use of clinical equipment regularly used
and maintain a personal record of training.
Contribute
towards organisational projects to set and maintain standards of practice,
including audits and quality monitoring.
Demonstrate
an awareness of and compliance with health and safety legislative regulations
and Sentinels procedures at all times.
Maintain
professional boundaries and working relationships with patients and colleagues.
Monitoring
of and reporting of relevant medical equipment issues and faults. Inform the
Operations Manager of all equipment issues.
Identify
potential risks for all staff, patients and visitors and adhere to relevant
incident reporting procedures.
Ensure
the safe custody and administration of drugs in accordance with local policies
and legal requirements.
Ensure
that local and national infection control procedures are followed. Report issues to the Operations Manager.
Report
untoward incidents such as complaints, clinical emergencies, and injury or drug
administration errors as detailed in local protocols and procedures.
Respect the confidentiality of all matters
relating to their employment and other members of staff. All members of staff
are required to comply with GDPR requirements and the Data Protection Act 1998.
Staff must comply with Safeguarding
Policies and Procedures in order to promote safeguarding and prevent abuse to
vulnerable people using the organisations services.
Ensure the welfare
and safety of children, including staff who come into contact with children and
families in the course of their work as well as those staff who have a specific
role with children and families.
