Job summary

We are seeking a motivated RGN to join our friendly, busy Outpatients/Pre-Operative Assessment team.Must be flexible between 8:00am and 8:00pm to include Saturday on rota.Minimum two years post registration experience essential preferably with surgical experience.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care. You will carry out nursing care without direct supervision. The post holder will also be required to regularly supervise and teach qualified and or unqualified staff. To be responsible for the effective running of the department in the absence of the Sister. To assist in the organisation of the department. To carry out enhanced duties commensurate with experience and responsibility in negotiation with the department manager.

Job SummaryThe post is a Staff Nurse post in the Outpatients Department with responsibility for co-ordinating Pre-operative assessment

The main responsibilities of the post will be to:

  • Co-ordinate the pre-operative assessment clinics.
  • Work within the operational policy for pre operative assessment, ensuring that patient information is collected and reported to the Consultant Surgeon/Anaesthetist in charge of the patients care.
  • Be responsible for the day to day running of the pre-operative assessment clinic.
  • Assist the Outpatient Manager in setting professional standards and the monitoring of performance against these standards.
  • Liaise with the MDT and patients to maximise planning of patient care, including post-operative planning, discharge planning.
  • Assist the OPD Manager in continually improving and developing the service.
  • To provide patients with written and verbal information that the patientrequires.
  • To ensure that the provision of the pre operative assessment function is cost effective.Roles and ResponsibilitiesClinical care
