Job summary
An exciting opportunity to further your knowledge of hospital IT systems has arisen at Fairfield independent Hospital in St Helens Merseyside.
This post is full-time plus participation in an on-call rota for week-ends.
With standalone computer systems with onsite and Cloud back up plus a virtual environment of 32 servers the engineer will find working on multiple projects across various departments stimulating and rewarding. The hospital computer service is a Windows environment and uses VMWare hypervisors. There are circa 200 users and 90 telephones.
This is an ideal opportunity for a graduate or time served engineer seeking a change but applications are welcome from applicants with I.T. NVQ Level 3 or an equivalent qualification. At least 2 years experience in a similar role is essential.
Main duties of the job
To provide an efficient technical and systems support function to users of departmental systems. To be responsible for all aspect of system administration and IT support services with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Technologies including Windows Server and Active Directory Management. Ensuring that the IT services are efficient and responsive to the needs of the organisation.To cover for absent IT colleagues.
To provide second Line support within an IT Infrastructure which utilises Microsoft Technologies and VMware.To maintain, troubleshoot, repair and manage desktop PCs, laptops, printers and any other supported peripherals such as scanners to an intermediate support level including networking.To participate in projects relating to the ongoing development and service improvement of the core technical support infrastructure.To assist in maintenance, monitoring, developing and reportingon IT security systems.To assist in maintaining IT logs of spending on IT software and hardware.To administer server operating system and user administration functions using common directory service systems. The creation, modification and deletion of user and computer accounts, changing of passwords and other basic and intermediate level systems administrative duties.To troubleshoot basic and intermediate desktop network connectivity issues involving protocols such as TCP/IP as well as physical connectivity issues.

The IT Engineer role will be part of a team of two engineers and two IT data processing colleagues, a dedicated SQL programmer, an apprentice and a Director of IT.
