Job summary

Are you a passionate and dedicated nurse with experience in palliative or end-of-life care? Do you want to make a real difference to patients and families across our local community? Ashgate Hospice is offering a rewarding opportunity to join our compassionate and forward-thinking community team as a Bank Palliative Care Nurse, providing flexible care to help cover the team. Youll play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, person-centred care to patients with complex palliative needs in their own homes, care settings and clinics ensuring dignity, choice and comfort every step of the way.

Main duties of the job

In this role, youll use your clinical expertise to assess, manage, and support patients with complex palliative care needs across home and care settings. Youll work collaboratively with GPs, District Nurses, AHPs, and hospital teams to deliver coordinated, holistic care always guided by Ashgates values of compassion, dignity, and excellence. Youll support the caseload holders to manage their patients, contribute to service development, and participate in any education.

About us

Ashgate Hospice, based in North Derbyshire, offers free palliative and end of life care for adults with life-limiting or incurable illnesses, including cancer, neurological diseases, and advanced heart, kidney, and lung conditions. Last year, we cared for over 2,400 people. Our aim is to support our patients by keeping them informed, managing their symptoms, and improving their quality of life from diagnosis onwards. We also provide vital support to the people who are important to them, offering practical assistance and emotional support, including bereavement services. Were more than a care provider. Excellent communication skills, emotional intelligence, and a commitment to learning are essential. A full driving licence and access to a car for community visits is required.   • Level 6 degree in palliative care or a related subject.
  • Evidence of continued professional development (CPD).
  • Completion of Advanced Pain and Symptom Management training, or a commitment to ongoing participation in such CPD.
  • Completion of Advanced Communication Skills Training (or equivalent), and commitment to regular refresher training.

Desirable

  • Advanced Physical Assessment and Consultation Skills qualification, or willingness to undertake within a specified timeframe.
  • Non-Medical Prescribing qualification, or willingness to undertake.
  • Teaching and Assessing or Mentorship qualification, or willingness to complete.
