At Ashgate Hospice, we believe that every individual should have the opportunity to explore and express their spirituality in a supportive, inclusive environment. As part of our dedicated team, youll provide spiritual care to patients and their families in our inpatient unit, day services, and the wider North Derbyshire community. You will assess spiritual needs, participate in care planning, and guide meaningful conversations about hope, meaning, and belief.
Main duties of the job
As a Spiritual Care Practitioner, specialising in hospice care, you will play a vital role in delivering the service by collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support patients and families at every stage of care.
You will offer expert advice on spiritual, religious, and cultural beliefs, participate in community outreach activities, promote open conversations about death and end-of-life care whilst developing a spiritual care service that is tailored to support the spiritual needs and values of all patients and their family.

- A minimum of two years experience of:
- Working with people with life limiting and palliative illnesses
- Delivering spiritual/pastoral care
- Conducting public worship, funerals or acts of reflection
- To have good standing within your own faith/belief community with evidence of spiritual/theological training
- A knowledge of world religions/beliefs and their practices around death and dying
Experience
Essential
- Evidence of an established place within a faith community
- Experience of working with people with a life limiting condition
- Awareness of current issues in palliative care/hospice chaplaincy
- Awareness of standards of professional practice
- Understanding of the needs of bereaved people
Desirable
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary setting and with external agencies
- Teaching experience ability to impart knowledge
