Job summary

Are you a dedicated and compassionate registered nurse looking for a fulfilling career where you can make a meaningful impact on patients and their families during their end-of-life journey? We are excited to appoint additional Registered Nurses to continue growing Ashgate in-patient services in line with our strategy and planned quality improvements. Our in-patient unit is a 15 bedded facility and patients are admitted to our In-patient Unit for complex symptom management and complex end-of-life care. We work closely with the hospice community specialist nurses, supportive care, specialist therapy and medical teams, to ensure we provide holistic individualised care to patients and their families.

Main duties of the job

As a Registered Nurse you, will join our RCN award-winning multi-disciplinary team on our In-Patient unit and you will: Provide skilled nursing care to hospice patients, offering relief from pain and symptoms. Collaborate with a compassionate multidisciplinary team to create personalised care plans. Provide specialist end of life care and treatment, including blood transfusions, antibiotics and intravenous fluid. Offer emotional support and guidance to patients and their families during a challenging time. Document patient care with precision and maintain accurate records. Educate patients and families about end-of-life care and pain management.

Essential

  • NMC professional registration

Desirable

  • Post registration qualification in palliative care.
  • Mentorship qualification.
  • Commitment to Continued professional development through further study

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of being part of a multi professional team.
  • Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate.
  • Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information.
  • Understands the scope of the role of the Registered Nurse in context of the nursing and interdisciplinary team, the organisation, and how the role may contribute to service development.
  • Understands and acts in line with NMC professional standards for practice contained within The Code.
  • Can articulate the requirements related to NMC professional Revalidation.
  • Understands the importance of adhering to procedures and treatment plans.
  • Evidence of experience in teaching/ disseminating knowledge and skills.
  • Knowledge of infection, prevention, and control procedures

Desirable

  • Experience of working within a Palliative Care setting
  • Awareness of the physical and emotional needs of patients suffering from a terminal illness and those of relative and carers.
  • Experience of working with volunteers

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent IT skills and ability to input into the electronic patient record system, following induction and training.
  • Excellent organisational skills, ability to plan and prioritise workload.
  • Ability to motivate self and others.
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of when to seek advice and refer to Ward Sister/ward Manager/Medic or care professional.
  • Ability to take part in reflective practice and supervision activities.
  • Ability to develop effective and appropriate relationships with people, their families, carers, and colleagues.
  • Ability to support, supervise, assess, and act, as a role model to student nurses, nurse associate, other learners and health care support workers as required within the clinical setting.
  • Evidence of the application of research and evidence-based care

  • Venepuncture & cannulation/extended roles and skills relevant to the clinical area.
  • Competent in the use of SystmOne Clinical Records System
  • Competent in the use of JAC electronic patient administration of medications
