Job summary

The Patient and Family Support Team (PFST) offers practical and emotional support to patients and families who are known to our Hospice services, including psychological support, social support, spiritual care, counselling and pre and post bereavement support.

We have an opportunity to join this team as a Counsellor. This is a part time role working 15 hours per week, based in our hospice in Cambridge.

As Hospice Counsellor you will be responsible for providing a counselling service for those who are referred needing bereavement and / or counselling. This role will be responsible for a complex pre and post bereavement caseload, and will act in an advisory capacity within the organisation and to local partners.  This role will be responsible for supporting a team of volunteers as well as supporting and providing student counselling placements. An Individual will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to work in highly emotive environments.

To be successful in this role you will have a qualification in Counselling/Psychotherapy at diploma level (Level 4) or equivalent experience, BACP or UKCP accreditation, or registered with HCPC, evidence of continuing professional development, knowledge and understanding of Ethical Framework for Counselling and Psychotherapy Professionals, sound theoretical background knowledge of grief and bereavement theory and practices, knowledge of legislation and its implications for clinical practice.

You will have experience of Counselling in End of Life and bereavement care, Experience of working in a health or social care setting, experience of group work to include health care professionals, experience of effective caseload and workload management, ability to provide training and development for staff in the delivery of quality bereavement care before and after death of a patient.
