Job summary

We are looking for a first Level Registered Nurse or an individual who holds an Allied Health Professional Qualification with at least 3 years experience.

The successful candidate will have good experience of managing their own caseload and display excellent communication skills with patients and significant others. You will have experience of caring for patients with all types of disease and be aware of treatments available to Oncology patients together with awareness of the Gold Standards Framework and Mental Capacity Act.

You will be a team player and have the ability to assess, plan and implement individual holistic care for patients.

A working knowledge of Secondary lymphoedema and Cancer Care would be an advantage but is not essential. Desirable knowledge and skills include the ability to provide advice to other healthcare professionals and have a proven background in research awareness and implementation.

The ability to travel within the local area and to attend training courses further afield is necessary.

Main duties of the job

  • To utilise research findings in the delivery of a specialist lymphoedema service and to disseminate relevant information concerning research.
  • To participate in the development and progression of research projects within the lymphoedema service.
  • To work within the Team to deliver excellent patient care but also be able to work with own initiative and manage a patient caseload.
  • To attend the required training to fulfil the Lymphoedema Specialist role as agreed with the Senior Lymphoedema Nurse Specialist.
  • To participate in planned programmes of personal appraisal with the Senior Lymphoedema Nurse Specialist
  • To ensure personal and professional development through reflective practice and supervision.

Lewis-Manning Hospice Care offers holistic care to local people living with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses and support for their carers through Day Hospice, Better Breathing Clinics and Bereavement and Carer support.

As an organisation, we continue to expand our services in Day Hospice, Bereavement support, Better Breathing and Lymphoedema Clinics.

We are in an exciting new phase of development, taking our services closer to peoples homes. We have a base in Poole and now have Day services in several hubs within East Dorset.

The Lymphoedema Service covers Bournemouth and surrounding areas including West Hampshire. We have newly secured Clinics at AECC University Chiropractic College in Bournemouth and continue to run clinics at our Poole base.

Due to our continued expansion we now seek a registered Nurse or allied Health Professional to join us. This is a development role to become part of a small multi-disciplinary team that currently provide specialist care to patients who have developed or have the potential to develop lymphoedema due to cancer and/or its treatments. This role could ultimately progress to leading the Service when the existing Lead retires within the next few years.

To assist in ensuring that a co-ordinated, high quality, patient focused service for patients with lymphoedema is provided, leading to an improved quality of life for the patient.

To provide skilled care and expertise in lymphoedema management for all patients referred to the lymphoedema service and to demonstrate competent clinical judgement in deciding patient focused long-range goals or plans.

To educate patients, relatives, and health care professionals on all aspects of lymphoedema management.

To demonstrate a positive and realistic attitude to the patient with cancer related lymphoedema to ensure that the physiological, psychosocial, spiritual, and cultural needs of the patient and family are met.

Job Responsibilities
