We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Maintenance Technician to join our Facilities team. In this varied and rewarding role, you will help ensure our Hospice remains a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for the people who rely on us every day.

About the role:

As our Maintenance Technician, you will:

  • Carry out general maintenance and repairs across the Hospice buildings and grounds.
  • Support with redecoration, small building projects, and upkeep of facilities.
  • Maintain and service equipment, keeping accurate records in line with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Conduct PAT testing and mandatory health and safety checks in accordance with Hospice and HSE standards.
  • Provide occasional maintenance support to our St Clare Hospice shops.
  • Assist with occasional out of hours Fundraising events
  • Participate in the emergency on call rota for the Hospice premises.

Main duties of the job

To maintain all equipment within the Hospice premises and grounds, including general building maintenance and repairs, redecoration, and small building projects

Occasional travel to St Clare Hospice shops to carry out general maintenance

Accurate recording of the servicing of hospice equipment in accordance with manufacturers guidelines

Carrying out mandatory Health & Safety testing as per hospice and HSE guidelines

Emergency On Call for hospice premises on a rota basis

About us

St Clare Hospice is a charity providing specialist palliative care to improve the lives of people affected by a life-limiting illness in West Essex and the borders of eastern Hertfordshire. Our care helps patients, their families, and carers, to make the most of every moment together, no matter how long they have left to live. We support them both at home and in the Hospice.

You will be working as part of the Facilities Team at the hospice that covers the Site Technicians, Housekeepers, and Catering staff. The Facilities Team is responsible for the maintenance, cleaning, catering and Health & Safety of this site as well as the Site Technicians being responsible for minor maintenance at all our retails outlets within Essex and Hertfordshire.

Essential

  • English and Maths to GCSE level 2 or equivalent
  • At least two years experience of a range of tasks

Desirable

  • Risk Assessment experience and / or of CoSHH assessments
  • PAT testing qualification
  • Electrical experience

  • Able to use all types of DIY equipment, e.g. Electric drills,
  • grinders, electric & hand saws, disc cutters, sanding
  • equipment, routers, gas cylinders, electrical scanners
