Clinician and Supervisor

Job summary

Each Clinician and Supervisor will be responsible for the low intensity clinical supervision of a small number of Education Mental Health Practitioners 

This may include support to future trainee EMHPs to help them complete their year one training programme. The clinician and supervisors may also hold a client caseload and will be expected to participate in other activities including providing support and training to staff in education settings.

The main areas of the job will include:

Supporting school settings to develop their understanding of the MHST and EMHP role

Providing direct support to students, pupils and families at a higher level of need than EMHP support and/or working alongside EMHPs as necessary

Low intensity clinical supervision of EMHPs (if identified as meeting the requirements for EMHP low intensity supervision training), including support for trainees

Completion of EMHP low intensity supervision training to become a low intensity supervisor (if required)

Working in partnership with other providers

Main duties of the job

The main duties and responsibilities of the post will include:

Working with schools to:

Identify children and young people who would benefit from accessing a mental health intervention

Provide consultation and advice to education staff and other professionals to enable self-management and in school, day to day support and signposting on to other services

Coordinate MHST support within a hub model

Promote the mental and emotional health of children and young people in education settings, through development of a whole-school approach to mental health

Work with the school/college senior mental health lead and existing service providers, to map what provision is already in place in settings and where the gaps are

To provide support and training to meet identified need

Ensuring safeguarding concerns are managed and raised appropriately in line with school and Northpoint policy

Direct work with children and families

Provision of direct, short-term evidence based therapeutic interventions to children, young people and families and delivering group interventions where appropriate

To support and empower children, young people and families to make informed choices about the intervention

To use appropriate outcome measure and client satisfaction evaluation forms to evaluate the impact of intervention and team performance

EHMP support/supervision

Contribute to the training and development of Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) within the team, through observations, modelling, training, and support

Provision of high quality and evidence based low intensity clinical supervision and support

Completion of any relevant EMHP low intensity supervision training

The MHST, is a schools-based service, delivering early intervention and prevention services, working with over 50% of schools and colleges across Calderdale, and anticipate further growth over the next few years. The service has established positive working relationships with schools and partner agencies across Calderdale, and the team has established a broad base of skills, knowledge and experience.
