Strategic General Practice Lead

Job summary

The Strategic General Practice Lead will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our practices in Whitburn and Jarrow. You will ensure the delivery of highquality, efficient, and financially sustainable services by overseeing business operations, supporting integration between sites, and enabling team leads to deliver excellent daytoday care.

You will be a key contributor to longterm planning, financial stewardship, and organisational development, working closely with senior leaders across STHC. The postholder will champion patient safety, regulatory compliance, and clinical governance, ensuring consistently high standards of care.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership across two general practice sites
  • Oversee business operations to ensure highquality, efficient, and sustainable services
  • Strengthen integration between practices and support collaborative working
  • Lead and empower practice and service leads to deliver excellent daytoday care
  • Contribute to longterm planning, workforce development, and organisational growth
  • Ensure robust systems for patient safety, regulatory compliance, and clinical governance
  • Support financial planning, monitoring, and stewardship
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external partners, including PCNs and system stakeholders

About us

STHC is a valued system partner, bringing together general practices across South Tyneside to deliver services at scale. We employ over 100 clinical and nonclinical staff and deliver four core functions:

  • Clinical Service Delivery
  • Practice Management
  • Primary Care Network Hosting
  • Business Services

We directly manage two general practices one in the beautiful coastal village of Whitburn and another in central Jarrow, a developing training practice with a combined list size of around 8,500 patients. We also host three PCNs and deliver a range of primary care services including mental health, spirometry, Covid vaccinations, Admiral Nursing, and Health & Wellbeing outreach.

  • A good standard of education with excellent literacy and numeracy skills
  • Educated to degree level in healthcare or business
  • Or 3 years equivalent experience
  • Leadership and/or management qualification

Desirable

  • Level 5 qualification in Primary Care and Health Management)

  • Experience of managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience of working with the members of the public
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting
  • 3 years+ experience managing a general practice
  • Experience of people management, including appraisals staff development, coaching and mentoring, team building and performance management
