Job summary
HUC is seeking an exceptional Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to join our Executive Leadership Team. As our most senior clinical leader, the CMO will provide strategic medical leadership and expert clinical guidance to the Board, Chief Executive, and the wider organisation.
This pivotal role will shape and deliver HUC's clinical vision, driving high standards of safe, effective, and innovative care across all services.
Key responsibilities:

Provide strategic clinical leadership, ensuring quality and safety remain at the heart of service delivery.

Lead the development and continuous improvement of clinical governance, quality, and workforce capability.

Represent HUC externally, influencing urgent and emergency care strategy at regional and national levels, and fostering strong relationships with Integrated Care Boards, regulators, and professional bodies.

Champion a culture of clinical excellence, education, and innovation within HUC.

Support transformation and workforce development, ensuring a skilled, motivated, and resilient multidisciplinary clinical workforce

Essential
- Registered medical practitioner with a valid license to practice in the England (GMC full registration on either the GP or Specialist register.
- Level 4 Safeguarding Training
- Post Graduate Medical Qualification or equivalent (MRCGP, MRCS).
- Inclusion on NHS England's Performers List (GP).
- MBBS or equivalent medical degrees and continuing professional / managerial and leadership development or NHS Leadership development programmes.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Substantial experience in a senior medical leadership role (e.g. Medical Director, CMO or equivalent) within urgent care, primary care, out of hours, NHS 111, or related unscheduled care service.
- Evidence of leading on clinical governance, patient safety and quality improvement at an organisational level.
- Highly developed leadership, communications and influencing skills with significant experience in performance management and workforce development for medical and clinical teams.
- Demonstratable track record of innovatively developing clinical services and the introduction of new services, especially as integrated components or in partnership.
- Proven experience of working effectively with senior stakeholder, including Boards, ICB's, CQC and system partners.
- Strong knowledge of clinical governance frameworks, risk management and safeguarding with an excellent understanding of regulatory requirement, CQC standards and professional codes of practice.
- Experience of working in an urgent care or general practice would be ideal with knowledge and deep understanding of legislation relevant to deliver of healthcare services e.g. data protection, CQC compliance and safeguarding
- Experience of medical education or GP training including accreditation compliance.
- Commercially astute, and the ability to exercise sound judgement in fulfilling an organisation' potential, whilst not compromising on its values.
