Job summary
Phlebotomists are healthcare professionals specialized in drawing blood for medical testing. They play a vital role in diagnostic procedures, ensuring accurate sample collection with a focus on patient comfort and safety. Phlebotomists follow strict protocols to obtain blood specimens for laboratory analysis, contributing crucial information to the healthcare decision-making process.
Main duties of the job
- Blood Collection: Skillfully draw blood from patients using various techniques to ensure accurate and sufficient samples.
- Patient Interaction: Communicate effectively with patients, explaining procedures, alleviating concerns, and maintaining a calm and reassuring environment.
- Specimen Labeling and Handling: Accurately label blood samples, organize them for transportation, and ensure proper handling to maintain specimen integrity.
- Documentation: Record and maintain detailed records of patient information, blood collection procedures, and other relevant data in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Safety Protocols: Follow strict safety and infection control protocols to minimize the risk of contamination and ensure a secure environment for both the phlebotomist and the patient.

BGPA is a federation of all 43 Bromley practices working collaboratively to enhance the health and wellbeing of Bromley residents, covering over 350,000 patients, 100% of the Bromley population.
BGPAs partner organisation is Bromley Education and Training Hub (BETH). BETH supports education, training and professional development across primary care in Bromley and beyond.
BGPAs goals are to work strategically with Bromley practices to help secure the best services for patients whilst working together to support member practices in the challenges of a changing NHS.
BGPA aims to improve the morale of general practice in Bromley by sharing expertise, services and supporting its workforce.
BGPA will make a positive impact on medical services in Bromley by working closely with One Bromley Partners including NHS SEL ICB, local NHS trusts, local providers and patient groups, to improve the delivery of healthcare to the local population.
