Job summary
As
a not-for-profit GP Federation, South Downs Health and Care is slightly
different in that we are not a GP Practice with our own list of patients.
Instead, we provide services at scale such as out of hours NHS GP services on
behalf of local practices (pre-booked appointments), Flu and COVID-19 Vaccination
Services and much more! SDHC also provide a Private GP service to the local
community.
We have an exciting opportunity for a registered vaccinator to
join our busy and friendly team of casual workers for the upcoming Autumn Flu & COVID-19 vaccination campaign.
You will join our team of GPs, GP Trainees,
Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Vaccinators and Phlebotomists who work
extremely hard in providing services to support GP Practices in East Sussex.
Main duties of the job
- To assess patient suitability for vaccination based on age, medical history and any contraindications and obtain patient consent
- To review vaccination records, discuss potential risks and benefits, and address any concerns or questions raised by patients or their caregivers
- To take patients through the screening and consenting process prior to non-registered vaccinators administering the vaccine to patients

Job description
Job responsibilities
- To be aware of which vaccine is being used on the shift
- To ensure the vaccination station is well stocked
- To assess patient suitability for vaccination based on age, medical history and any contraindications and obtain patient consent
- To review vaccination records, discuss potential risks and benefits, and address any concerns or questions raised by patients or their caregivers
- To take patients through the screening and consenting process prior to non-registered vaccinators administering the vaccine to patients
- To ensure the patient is comfortable, seated if necessary, encourage them to relax their arm and make sure they are in the most appropriate position to receive the vaccine
- To check the vaccine before administration and report any concerns (i.e. about the syringe/needle/dose) to the Clinical Lead
- To cross check that the correct vaccine batch number is recorded against each patient
- To administer the vaccine to patients, ensuring the vaccine is administered via the intra-muscular route (the patients upper arm - deltoid muscle) in accordance with training and local and national protocol, procedures and standards
- To immediately observe the patients reaction following vaccination and refer any adverse events, issues, queries, concerns or complaints to the Clinical Lead

- Must hold relevant qualification to be currently registered as a healthcare professional with UK professional body (i.e. NMC)
- Basic Life Support training
Experience

- Experience of handling difficult conversations
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience of working according to protocols

- Experience of working in a variety of clinical settings
- Experience of administering vaccines within a primary care team
Knowledge and other criteria

- Knowledge of clinical governance and risk management

- DBS clearance at enhanced level
